I'm going to Vegas next week and was wondering if anyone has ever played in the NL $55 buyin tourney at Ballys. I was thinking of playing in that during my trip. I've never played in a live tournament at a casino.
I just played in that one two weeks ago. They cap it at 50 players and pay out the top 4....once the third blind level hits, it really starts to push, since they double the blinds every level. Not a horrible setup, just be aware you're going to have to be aggressive from the outset or you'll be crippled by the blinds an hour in. Myself and 8 friends all signed up for it and 5 of us made the top 16. Only one placed though, and it wasn't me.
It's a decent game, but the high buy in tourneys are generally better. You get more starting chips and the levels are a bit longer...
Check out the back of a cardplayer for a tourney schedule...any tourney at the Wynn, Bellagio, or Caesar's is going to be pretty good...not a lucky crapshoot!
I will be getting there either Thurs eve or Friday of next week. I think I will play on the strip on Friday and then stay in downtown the rest of the weekend and play there
Does anywhere have a good tourney to play in the day on Friday that has a buy-in under $200?
I'm heading there tomorrow for a long weekend. See you at the Mirage poker room and the Caesars tournies. I'll be at the MGM poker room saturday night while the wifey is watching her concert there.

The Mirage has a decent structure and have 11am, 7pm and 11pm starting times- every day. Like $40 + one $30 rebuy (something like that). You can also call ahead to get on the list.
Make sure to confirm the times. The only dwarback is that they play 12 handed to start (do not remember if they consolidate to 10 handed when they can).
Skip the tournaments with crappy structures. Pay $100+vig and play at the Caesars 7pm tournament -- MUCH better structure.
I concur. I just got back from Vegas and played mostly at Caesars. Tourney structure was good. The cash games were softer than at the Bellagio where I normally play. The room is very large with plenty of room between tables. Not crowded like the Bellagio.
I am headed to Vegas tomorrow....staying at the Wynn leaving early Wednesday. Don't know if I'll play there due to their unlimited buyin policy....maybe play tourney there tues if I still have money! ( although 330 is a little steep ) maybe play a sit n go of around 120 I think it is
I've never played poker before in Vegas so I might just play at MGM with max buy in of 200 (1-2 nl) and 500 (2-5 nl). 1-2 is played with 2 dollar chips correct?
