He thought is was Limit, and when he realized it wasnt (a couple hands in), he promptly gathered his chips and signed in at another table. TWO hands later, the NL table he was on hits the jackpot. $27,000 for the table.
Most of the $$ goes to the two players in the hand(the other 8 got like $1600 each), but Ive never seen such a bummed "Oh what could have been" look on anyones face. Poor bastard.
Not really answering you question Boris, but you just reminded me of that story.

That really blows though. |

If it's low limit though, it's not like the play is any different. The only exception I saw is I played at Excalibur once, and you get to "spin the wheel" when you get AA cracked - so people often limp with AA, thereby either getting a lot of action with them, or losing and usually winninng as much or more than the pot anyway.
I was in Tahoe last weekend and they have jackpots at Harvey's. I was at a table where some guy with the ass-end of the straight flush hit the jackpot... it had just been won the day before though so it wasn't very big. I got $80 for nuttin'. None-the-less, if you have other options, I would say just skip it. The extra rake is not worth it - unless buying lottery tickets is your thing. |

"Our hero has 99 in the BB on a 2/4 limit table at Party Poker (ooo party party). 4 limpers and hero checks. Flop is 9d-9c-Tc. Yeehaw. Hero bets, another player raises, call, fold, call, hero reraises, call, fold, call. Turn is Jc. Hero bets, raise, fold, hero reraises, call. River is Qc. Hero bets, raise, hero reraises, cap, call. Villain of course shows 7c8c for the straight flush.
Sucks, right, quads flopped and you lose. BOO.
But wait. See this was on Party's bad beat jackpot tables. Their stipulations are quad 8s or better beaten and both hole cards must play. WHOO HOO. Hero is rich! But wait. Villain has a SIX card str8 flush. They turned it, using both of their cards. But the river was the only card in the deck that could kill the jackpot, costing hero $39,000, or about 9500 BB. And likely their sanity." |

I'm surprised anyone ever wins the thing. |
