You're on "High Stakes Poker" -- what's your strategy?

I play NLHE almost exclusively in live games (occasionally tournaments, when possible), so this is my new favorite show.

So, you're invited on GSN's "High Stakes Poker," and you're staked $200,000. Based on your knowledge of the game and players so far, what's your strategy?

That would more than cover my student loans and tuition through next year and all of grad school and living expenses.

Re: You're on "High Stakes Poker" -- what's your strategy?

Pray

Well, I couldn't hope to try and outplay that crowd so I figure the best bet is just try and play a tight/aggressive game and win coin flips. I think with those players, it would just be a matter of survival. Not showing fear or being too intimidated would be a key factor in not getting run over. I wouldn't try and make too many "plays." I think players of that caliber would see through most of them. I don't have enough experience to set them up properly and be able to correctly identify in what situation to try and get too tricky. I would vary my play a little, push back against a player like Freddy Deeb, but not one like Jennifer Harman who plays a little tight/aggressive herself. I would just try and make sure that I got in good and always leave myself outs so I could river the many suck-outs I am sure that I would need.

Re: You're on "High Stakes Poker" -- what's your strategy?

1) Try not to pass out due to the insanity of the stakes being played for.

2) Drink heavily, sleep it off, come back to the table the next day.

3) Have a gin n tonic to take the edge of the hangover from yesterday and to relax the nerves.

4) Try not to star at Jennifer Tilly's boobs.

5) Play tighter than a donkey's ******* in the summer.

6) Stare at Jennifer Tilly's boobs.

7) Cash out.

Re: You're on "High Stakes Poker" -- what's your strategy?

It depends, where am I sitting? Is negranu on my left or right? Any amateurs still here (the OBGYN or the lakers guy)? Is Freddy still at the table and where?

Basically, I'd just play top 10 hands only for a while until I was more comfortable with the players and got a rep as playing tight and then try some steals maybe.

Play my usual game.

The money wasn't mine if I was staked. So I'm not losing anything. Play right, make money, and double the stake!

Re: You're on "High Stakes Poker" -- what's your strategy?

Seriously speaking now, I would want to play premium hands, and only get involved in big pots. The pros would be able to outplay me post-flop in small pots so I would look to play big pairs strongly, and try to flop a set with some sevens and eights and nines and play it big. The only difference in my regular strategy is I would try less to be the table captain so to speak and not play as many suited connectors, small pairs, etc.

Re: You're on "High Stakes Poker" -- what's your strategy?

why does everybody think they will get out played?

Even if you do play your big cards, you can still get out played.

The thing that most pros fear the most is a new player. They don't know how they play. More often than not, a pro gets out played by a nobody. A pro will fold because it's the right thing to do...an amateur doesn't know he needs to fold to a re-raise...
