Chips: 1,071 | | | CHOPPING 1st and 2nd in a Tournament I think this falls under strategy. I declined a chop today at a one table satellite at Caesars Indiana. I would have won an entry chip to any of the 4 $500 WSOP Circuit tournaments going on the next two weeks. Oviousely I did not win and I regret not chopping. In fact this is the second time where I could have chopped but did not and regretted it.
He just took over the chip lead again - though I had outplayed him to that point (IMO). He had me 3 to 2 or better starting out heads up and when he had the lead again (3 to 2 ish) he offered to chop giving me 250 and he would get the buy-in chip worth 500 + the $50 cash. I said 50% 50% and we have a deal. He said no. He won the next few hands and we both went in preflop me with A 7 suited and he had KQo flopped a Q and it was over. Been kicking myself ever since. |

i chop once in a while, if first doesn't pay much more than second and it looks like it's going to be a grind, or if i think i'm a weaker player than the other guy, or if chopping will guarantee another tournament.
so yes, once in a while. |

Chips: 117 | | | Re: CHOPPING 1st and 2nd in a Tournament well you have to decide...do you wanna win a sattelite? or do you wanna win a wsop circuit event? that should be the basis of your decision and you should remember what sattelites are for anyways IMO it was a poor decision
yah and i agree the poll options dont really apply to the situation that well |

Chips: 1,071 | | | Re: CHOPPING 1st and 2nd in a Tournament I do not think I can edit the poll - but yes it was winner take all 500 entry chip + $50 cash - second gets nothing. I actually liked my chances to win, but was willing to chop even. Hindsight is always 20/20 |

Chips: 807 | | | Re: CHOPPING 1st and 2nd in a Tournament I am usually always willing to chop depending on the blinds. My reason being, when it gets to heads up, the large blind is usually like 10-20% of your stack and its really just a coin flip who will catch a card and win. If we have enough chips relative to the blinds, I will decline if Im confident I can outplay my opponent. |

Chips: 111 | | | Re: CHOPPING 1st and 2nd in a Tournament I will chop if it is fair, ie equal percentage to what each person has in chips. To make it simple, down to 2 players, one has 60% then chop 60/40. Especially if I feel the other is a better player. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
