Yeah, something like this could be technically done (if I am reading the post right). I'll assume you're thinking they are looking at your cards - it is possible for someone to write an app that screen scrapes a particular program and sends them what is on your screen. I know because I just wrote one (not for poker purposes - its work related, but it can be done). The problem is that you would have had to unwittingly installed it - meaning someone would have had to trick you into downloading the program - which in my belief is a relatively small chance.
With that said, I have seen people post "go to www.xyz.com" in the chat window and if you go to
www.xyz.com the online poker room throws you out of the game because the site contains info on cheating online poker. What this the online sites are doing is scanning the list of active processes on your PC - if a process (program) matches a certain string (program title) they boot you. But that doesnt sound close to what you are experiencing.
