$5/10 NL at the Rio; Worst. Ruling. Ever.

this is just beyond comprehension. posted on 2+2 the other day by a well-known contributor and one of the creators of the Micros:

as a lot of people say in the thread (Bizarre Hand, Questionable Ruling at the Rio), this is the single instance in which i've ever thought it was correct to refuse to pay and get the boot for life. at the very least i would refuse to pay until i went as high up the chain of command as i could go and pitch the biggest sh*tfit possible without getting arrested.

how about the moral is to not blatantly unfairly exploit the gambly fish who fund the game? the player who took the pot and the others at the table who didn't shame him mercilessly are nearly as culpable as the sh*tty floor. no excuse whatsoever for any of it.

shouldn't have joke when you have 7K on the line unless you are Bill Gates.

Don't bring your home game rules and expect it will be dealt as in casino. For the guy with the J9 I would have check if I was the last guy. IMO

anyone who doesn't immediately understand how awful the floor ruling and player action is for the game has no clue about making money in live poker. we want dumb fish who make stupid jokes and do dumb sh*t to entertain themselves to feel completely comfortable in the game. if they see that you are ready to scam their money off of them at the first opportunity they won't be coming around.

if your first reaction to this story is, "well, he got what he deserved" or anything in that vein you must have some serious deep-seated unhappiness in your life.

This is why you don't f*ck around with the words "All-In". Verbal is binding.

They first need to determine what the rule is around face up cards in the muck and exposing your hand with action behind you. If both of these are "Yes, live cards" then the all-in should be binding.

Dont. Ever. Say. All-In. Unless. Your. Ass. Is. All-In.

I remember the first time I played casino poker - it was October 2008 and I was with the HDK. He only said 3 things to me as we walked in:

"Never underestimate the stupidity of other people. Have fun, this is fun godd#mnit. And never say 'All-in' or 'Raise' or 'Bet' or put chips in the middle of the table unless you really mean to."

If we want to complain about the ruling regaridng cards face up in the muck, I think there is an argument there. But about the "all-in" declaration - hey, don't f#ck around.

over time i expect to make a lot more than $5k from the fish. do you think that other fish who see/hear about sh*t like this still want to play? i do feel sorry for the guy - and if you don't i think you have a serious empathy deficit - but my rationale has zero to do with that. from a completely selfish perspective the ruling and the actions of the players is horrendous for the game.

In the casino even the written rule can be superseded due to the situation and best interest of fairness and the game... this is 100% a judgement call by the floor and they blew it.

I agree. What he did was ship $3K with 24o into a made hand. What's more dumb and stupid than that?

I suppose if he was a regular player with a fat bankroll and was a complete fish that showed no historical signs of improvement, maybe for the good of the game long-term you don't call him on it.

That said, if I had the opportunity to pickup $3K at 5/10 NL versus a dead losing hand with zero risk in a casino with strangers, I'd be stupid and dumb not to take it.

I think allowing the "All-In" joke could lead to a future situation where either an angle-shoot becomes possible and causes confusion later in hands with possibly more validity.

Not a scam. The player did something impossibly stupid and got what he deserves.

Not sure about deep-seated unhappiness. Perhaps some temporary unhappiness given how bad I ran in June.
