What Are The Odds

Sitting at a poker table with a total of 10 players, the dealer rotates around the table among the players and two decks of cards are used. During the next 5 hours 11 sets of pocket A’s are dealt with 1 player receiving 6 sets of pocket A’s. He wins with 5 of those sets. This play never dealt himself any of the pocket A’s. I did not receive any pocket A’s. Three days latter on the same table but only a few of the same players in play and again 10 players are seated. On this night 10 sets of pocket A’s are dealt. In total 21 sets of pocket A’s were dealt. Prior to these two evenings we did not track how many sets of any denominations were dealt but at best I would say maybe 4 sets of the same denominations has ever been dealt.

Re: What Are The Odds

Firstly, check how many Aces are in the deck. There should be at least 12.

Re: What Are The Odds

At 220 : 1 for seeing any pair pre-flop it would not be unusual to see that in 5 hours of play if 2000 hands were dealt. Now it's just a matter of seeing if he has an alias.

I have had pocket aces several times in a single evening of play, although I have never kept track.

Re: What Are The Odds

Not impossible. I've had them 4-5 times per night once or twice. In one game, i was dealt pocket kings in back to back hands (and felted someone each time).

About a year back, in 3 consecutive hands, I was dealt AA, then QQ, then KK. I even called the kings. Showed each hand too.

Sometimes, they show up a ton, sometimes they like to stay hidden.

"What Are The Odds" = 50/50

It will either happen or it won't

Re: What Are The Odds

I watched a friend of mine get dealt AA 8 times in 3 hours once. It was 1/2 NL at Foxwoods. He walked out + $35. Yes, you read that right. He couldn't figure out how to play them and was limp-check-calling with them initially.

I was once dealt pocket Ks in back to back hands... and I was felted both times.

Re: What Are The Odds

I like the 50/50 line. Although wouldn't it be 100%, since it already happened?

The improbable does happen. One time at Foxwoods I noticed this huge crowd around a roulette table with a crazy number of chips on a few specific numbers. I asked someone what was going on, and they told me that this guy had hit his number three or four times in a row, pressing most of his winnings each time, so he had like $80k. Apparently it drew a crowd and all these people started betting the same number as this guy.
