I've seen something this week playing live that I have yet to see online.

1/2, The preflop raise was to 8 bucks made by the BB who had both the the limped button and SB call.

Flop was 7 4 5 of spades. SB checks, BB fires 18, the button makes it 50, SB shoves for about $120, BB goes all in for $100, and Button does the "what the hell I call" call and has them both covered.

The BB had the nut flush (A T), Button had king high flush (K 8 ), and SB queen high flush (Q 6). So even the 3rd nuts had a miracle one out draw to the straight flush. Turn was a low heart and a Jack of spades hit the river.

Watching the hand, you think one of the three guys hit a set, maybe two pair, a nut flush draw, or maybe even a straight but not all three guys flopping big flushes.

It was a wild hand and the biggest action flop I ever witnessed in my brief time playing.

Re: I've seen something this week playing live that I have yet to see online.

You have to figure online folks are usually playing a bit deeper stacks and usually play much tighter..not a ton of online regs with Q6s are calling 4x raise from SB. When you are only 50ish BB deep and the pot is 1/3 -1/2 your stack PF...math wise here you gotta shove/call. Even if 1 guy had As 10(non spade) he's gotta put his money in the middle.

Its pretty normal at some of the 1/2 home games I goto for pots like these about once an hour especially the 1st few hours in the session..not where folks all have flushes of course but where you get a stout raise 3 callers and next thing you know everyone becomes an artist because they are all AI and drawning at the pot. Except for the poor dude who flopped 2 pair..he is just praying no one hits.

Re: I've seen something this week playing live that I have yet to see online.

I'm definitely less of an online rigtard because of what I have seen live recently.

I would be one of the two pair guys praying! In the same session I was in the BB with Ac Qh and folded to the SB who raised me 8 bucks. The Flop was As Qs 6h. I bet 15, he min raises, I shove for $90 and we got it all in because he "decided to raise with garbage but now I like my hand". He had Ks 6s and luckily I saw red blanks the rest of the way and won.

For that game, 8 bucks is a very soft raise. Usually the tighter guys (myself at times included) will open $15 with the big four hands and re-raise stiff as hell, goal being to not risk getting out flopped or outplayed by the wild and vicious Donkapotamus. I play pretty tight there and in general but my results are modestly consistent. While some guys are cashing out $400, I am happy up 50 bb on average at the end of the night and am on a nice steady two month run. Usually that guy cashing big there is also on the house's books pretty big as well. I don't ever want to find myself on that side of the tracks.

Re: I've seen something this week playing live that I have yet to see online.

Just dont go on tilt losing with the big 4. I see that a lot from the tighter players at our games. They wait half the night for KK and then get AI and lose..puts a whoopin on their mental states.

What ive learned playing live 1/2 is a pretty simple strat. I call any multipot early raise with 56s+, any PP and 3bet A10/KJ and better(depending on person raising of course) when Im on button/cutoff on full table.

Im pretty tight in most other positions which gives me a tight table image. I almost always show my QQ+ hands to folks when I c-bet and get folds. Folks remember what they see best so they always put me on those hands any other time I c-bet from EP-MP raise.

I shove to any bet/raise when I have strait & flush draw. I never call a shove when I dont think I have best hand or have draw to the nuts. Nothing worse then seeing a player call a shove with his K high FD and get see the other player turn over an Ah FD so I don't go down that street.

Of course I vary this strat sometimes but usually this is my strat going into those games. Give's a good table image even though Im a bit wreckless in late position.

I like it, very sound, keeps people honest, allows you to play against the grain at times, and it seems like you avoid a lot of crazy swings playing that way. I kind of go along with that now, but don't 3 bet with the range that you do, usually just AQ and up. I try to be very careful with the big 4, I have a tight image there too and I usually get folds to my big raises or wind up in AA vs. KK or QQ type situations.

People there play those stupid nickname hands just for fun and action like 'Ninetendo' (64) and 'The Gay Waiter' (Queen Trey) One you identify who those knuckleheads are you can sit back and usually get a read when they are being silly.
