Hand from the other night 35s on the button.

Just thought I'd share an out of the ordinary hand I recently had in my weekly home game group.

Folds to me($480) on the button with 3s5s. I raise to $8 against an extremely tight SB($350ish) and loosey goosey maniac BB($250ish) who I play with every week and he leaks money like crazy but loves to gamble. Heads up in position against a guy like this is what makes poker fun. Plus I was 90% sb was folding.

Losey Gosey calls--which honestly means 2 cards.

My plan was simple..bet any A or broadway board including FD's with flop and turn barrels if I get raised(which he rarely does) on either and I dump it if I whiffed. We play enough that he credits me for paint in this spot for the most part.

Flop is 2s 4h 6s...I try not to fall out of my chair.

Now metagame wise I raise FD's a lot or at least tell folks after a hand where I raise big and they fold that I raised with FD. Board has FD's on it enough its pretty believable and I will try to show my FD's as much as possible. Im not only raising with FD's and don't always raise big with an actual FD's but have done my best to convince folks I do.

BB bets $25 not to uncommon for him since he has me on paint and wants me to dump my overs. In my mind I have him set up perfectly for what will look like a FD raise on that board--I mean how does 2 4 6 ever hit me when I raise PF. So I raise to $100..which is very close to what I would actually raise a FD semi-bluff against some players..he tanks a minute and finally says "your FD aint buying this hand" and comes back over the top AI for his 220ish. Hoping I would fold my AsQs/KsJs-whatever since he took the odds away from my overcard FD.(although IM not sure he even understands odds)

At this point I think Im a genius since he played into what I have been setting up the last few sessions. I of course I fist pump call.

He shows Kh2h--yes folks he has a pair of 2's and BD FD at this point.

turn heart
river heart.

I just muck my flopped nuts and tell him good hand.

He collects the chips and had no idea how incorrect he was with his read on the hand and how he basically played into my dream flop. but... this is poker and sometimes flopped nuts lose.

What I realized is a player as bad as he is basically lives for winning hands like this and 8/9-10 times I take his $$$ and he rebuys but the 1/2 times he wins is why he continues to play every week. He won't remember the losses but won't forget about the time he out played me on that FD I had.

Now I can never say raising 35s in any position is good poker but sometimes against the right opponent any 2 in position can be +ev with implied odds + table image.

Sick hand. He didn't play it that badly, did he?

I think you're better off raising to $6. That's enough to fold the SB and why bloat the pot with such a weak hand?

Re: Hand from the other night 35s on the button.

Luckily he is a fella with a bunch of money and a huge poker ego. He'd rather I won the hand then show folks I bluffed him out of a hand with a FD.

Odd thing with the raise is...to him anyway the more I raise there the more I rep a big hand..so honestly I was debating if 8 was enough. 6 to him means two cards $8-10-12 means..I get to go up against high cards and beat them with my trash.

This is the same guy I open shoved QQ(a month or 2 ago) on button and he was in BB. I actually show him the queens and he says "ah what the heck....I have an over" and calls with A8o. So yea he is that bad but its his ego that gets him in the most trouble.

So yea against most folks a $6 raise would be fine..but this guy is special..

Good move not showing your hand in a feeble attempt to save face. It's better he not know how far behind he was PF. That play will come in handy later.

You got all the money in with the nuts, nothing else you do except curse the poker gods.

What's the difference between a loosey goosey maniac and one who raises with 35 ?

Several things. First he has position, second he knows exactly how the 2 players he's up against play and how they think he plays. Its a situational raise that accomplished exactly what he wanted, unfortunately runner runner happened and f'd up the plan.
