My Horseshoe Bad Beat on Saturday

So, I'm playing at the Horseshoe's (Indiana) new poker room Saturday night as part of a bachelor party. The group decided to stay at the casino most of the night, so I was able to play 1/2 NL for about 5 hours.

First of all, the poker room at the Horseshoe is top notch. Great dealers, nice (and attentive) waitresses and flat screens everywhere.

I bought in for $200 at a 1/2 NL game and was up and down througout the night. The game is really loose - players staying in (and calling raises) with cards they have no business playing. At 3 am, I had approx. $190 when this happened:

Hero - BB
Villan - UTG +4
6 other players (8 total at the table)

Dealt to Hero: Q Q

1. Everyone calls ($2) around to me, I raise to $12; player x calls, player y calls, Villain calls. Pot size is $56.
2. Flop comes: Q 2 2
3. I bet $25, player x calls, player y calls, Villain shoves for $90 and is all in. Pot size is $221 before I act.
4. I think about it for a second and make the call. Player x folds, player y folds.
5. Villain turns over A 2 . I turn over my cards and quickly get an "on s**t!" from the Villain. I'm happy - I've got him crushed.
6. Turn is a blank
7. River is the 2 !

I couldn't believe it. I decided it was time to go home and lick my wounds!

I hope you're kidding with this statement. You can't think about that.

Re: My Horseshoe Bad Beat on Saturday

Well this confirms it.

BETTER LUCKY THAN GOOD.

That's about as nasty a bad beat you can get. But in the end you made the right decision and your opponent a mistake. I hope you find some solace in the fact that with that style of play your opponent will likely end up losing the money he/she won from you as well as a whoooole lot more in the long run.

But yeah, it pisses me off as well when people making dumb plays get rewarded . Makes me wonder what I've done to deserve something like that

Well I think he was trying to get the two players behind him to call as well

It was more like a millisecond - I was calling anything at that point.

BTW, the chips at the Horseshoe are pretty sweet. I espcially like the $2 chip. They were in very good condition with very sharp edges still. Nothing like casino Paulsons.

Ok. Now this is irrelevant in this case (since you took a bad beat) but I don't think the instacall was too good of a play. You're CRUSHING any hand except pocket 2's. So a little Hollywood might've been in order just in case someone has a big or middle pair and feels like gambling. More money in a pot that you're a HUGE favorite to win.

Just some food for thought...

Re: My Horseshoe Bad Beat on Saturday

Sorry about the bad beat. I was there yesterday and noticed that they've ended the Quads-or-better promotion early (it was supposed to run throughout the month of September). I'll bet your Villain wasn't too happy about that, unless he didn't know about the promotion.

Yes, the chips are sweet. A few (and then some) have come home with me. Did you happen to see the 43mm $1K and $5K chips at the craps tables and other high-limit tables? Positively yummy!
