when it's just not your night

Playing 1/2 NL at The Borgata night before last. Watched my $300 buy-in dwindle to under $150 because loose players keep playing junk and getting lucky. I'm in MP with T8 hearts and limp after a couple EP limpers. More limpers behind and then the BB raises to $11. Folded to me, but I call knowing that at least a couple of the LAGs behind me are going to call as well and if I hit, I can probably get paid off. Sure enough, 2 more callers and 4 of us see a flop of J29 all hearts. I've got the flush and an OE redraw to the straight-flush. BB leads out with $35 into a pot of approx. $50. If he raised with AKh or AQh, I've got a problem, but any other hand he has, I have him beat. My main concern is I don't want one of the other guys behind me to come in with a lone A or K of hearts and catch a 4th heart, so I move in. It's folded to the BB who says, "Whatever, I call". He shows ducks for a set of deuces. Turn is 8 of clubs, river 9 of clubs, pairing the board to give him the boat. He has me well covered and I'm off to my room.

Re: when it's just not your night

That is unlucky that he hit his house, but a good example of why not to limp with mediocre holdings imo.

Re: when it's just not your night

Nothing wrong with what you did, you got it allin with a big favorite. Problem is almost nobody would fold a set in that spot at a Borgata 1/2 nl game. I guess if your stack was bigger you could have check called the flop and shoved the turn if it came a blank, but given your chips you made the absolutely correct play. Tough break.

Re: when it's just not your night

That was just a tuff break, the other thing you could have done was when the river made his boat, point behind and go "hey look over there!!" While everyones attention was diverted then you scoop the pot and run.

Re: when it's just not your night

Damn sorry to hear that man. Been there bro. I mean 1/2 anywhere plays much faster than it should in my opinion. I just don't understand it though, especially at borgata, do people just go with the intention of blowing money, and not winning money? I mean I can't tell you how many guys in their 20's, (i'm 27) will just drink it up bigtime and just play every hand and going all in without any thought. I mean it can be ultra profitting sitting there playing off of people's mistakes. But you get sucked out on so much when you're constantly dodging bullets. I mean last year i was in town for a night and then took the ferry from new jersey to delaware to stay with a friend for the rest of the weekend. I played 7 hours of 1/2 nl at borgata and cashed out of my table with $1,300. And I did nothing but just relax, play my position and when I had it , my chips went in, I always got called and avoided bad beats. I mean this is 1/2 nl!!!!!!!!!! I just don't understand how people play these rags and call reraises with junk and go all in on draws. It's enough to make you go nuts, but if you plan on playing often you can do well just picking your spots.
