Not my night to play online I guess...

Was running pretty well in 12th place with 27 players to go in a 90 player $3 knockout tourney at FTP. The following were my final two hands, which just happened to be the hand prior to the first break and the first hand after said break.

Comments as to how I could have escaped my fate with these hands would be appreciated. I'll not whine. I'm zender @ FTP.

Re: Not my night to play online I guess...

IMHO on both hands, you played probably as well as you could have. I know how those runs feel. I was snapped by pocket Aces to pocket Kings on two nights in a row. What can you do unless you have an abosolute read on hands like that? I would just take them as a bad run on GOOD cards. LOL. As we all know... it is bound to happen one too many times than we would like. Good luck next time. Take it ALL!

Re: Not my night to play online I guess...

I think you played the first hand perfectly. Your opponent has already invested 25% of his stack into the pot. He's going with it if he hits anything within smelling distance of the flop. He's got 5 outs twice, about 20%. It's just a bad beat.

The second one is a little tougher. Your stack is obviously much smaller now, and you are dealing with two opponents who can bust you. There are two possible things I can think of that you could have done differently... first, you could have moved in immediately after the first guy open raises. Second, you could have folded when you saw that subsequent re-raise and call behind you.

If you shove, it's hard to say if you could have gotten either one of the others to fold. They both might have called and the result may very well have been the same.

But you called and then there was a re-raise and a call. The sequence as it comes back to you has been raise, call, re-raise, call, which suggests some big hands are in play. I might be the pre-flop favorite against either one of them separately, but against both of them, I'd be concerned my Queens were a dog. At this point, there is too much in the pot and your remaining stack is just too small to move either one of them off the hand. You're just kind of hosed here.

Re: Not my night to play online I guess...

The first hand I'm surprised that Dewey just didn't push all in preflop. The way he played that hand, he should have just pushed preflop. You played the hand well, you just got outdrawn.

On the second hand if you pushed preflop, I honestly believe badgers1fan is doing the same. Personally, I would have pushed preflop but I don't believe it would have changed the outcome.

So standard. Nice hand on both (but you already knew that).

Re: Not my night to play online I guess...

I've gone over it and think that shoving PF on the 2nd hand probably wouldn't have changed the outcome and that both were destined to be AI too. I think that it's more or less as you say - I'm kind of hosed there.

I think, in all likelihood, you're right, no one is folding, and the result will be the same.

I tossed out the notion of folding when the action comes back to you, but that's really a pretty unattractive option also, and I don't think that was a viable play.

Every so often in poker, there is simply a hand where you are going to go down, and there is nothing you can do about it. Any player in the world would have lost their stack there. I wouldn't spend a moment thinking about it.
