Just got back from Vegas last night and I thought I'd share in some of the highlights.
We had a 7:20 flight out of Indy which means we were supposed to leave Cincy at 3:30am, we left at 4:15.
I'm racked out about 15 min into the drive and I keep waking up to sharp breaking and some heav(ier) traffic for that time in the morning. There was some very heavy fog and road construction... I was shaken and I open my eyes to a sudden merge narrowly avoiding some orange barrel and a semi sandwich.
We made it through security and to the gate with about 30 min to spare. On the plane there was a guy 1.5 times my size who was leaning back in his chair the whole time and putting a sizeable strain on the seat back. There were two other seats in his row that were reclined and his seat came back at least twice as far. I could practically see his forehead. The flight was fine otherwise and we had an uneventful ride to MGM.
It was about 8:30 local time but we still took a shot at a early check-in. I slipped the clerk a $20 bill and she put us in a room immediately. A very nice one at that. Standard amenities but very comfortable beds.
We dropped our bags and did a quick 180 out of the room and beelined it the Bellagio for buffet. Took the monorail to Harrahs and crossed the people bridge and arrived at 9:30. The line was really short and the food was great, again. We had to pay a "holiday" price due to it being mother's day, but it was still worth it.
Theresa had mentioned that she saw a 1-5 stud game listed and that instantly piqued my interest. I checked into it only to find that the game never gets going. hmmm... That left 2-5 NL as the best option.
I played decently up to the end where I over played wired jacks that were the over pair to the 9 high board. I ended up giving my whole stack to an old man. I know I shouldn't have been playing them that hard.
Theresa was up a little so the burn wasn't so bad. We made our way to the the Palazzo via The Venetian and won a $5 for the collection. Afterwards we went to the Venetians poker room and played some 1-2 NL where I got stacked early and then fought back to small win. While we were there I heard that they were playing stud8 in the salon, which is one of my favorites. There I eeked a little more profit while chatting with the locals that get the game up every Saturday.
It turned out to be an early night as we were dead tired. I took a quick shower and fell asleep immediately.
The next morning BW went to the pool and I went to church... I meant poker room. I played pretty aggressive and caught a few big hands. Ended up flopping quad 6s and getting a small payoff from a bluff.
We met up in the room in time to check out and head to the Wynn where Spamalot was playing. BW had bought tix for my birthday. Before the show we played some cards and ate at the buffet.
I got stacked when I played wired Ts and picked off a semi-bluff which held A3 of clubs for a draw. I make a straight on the turn and he rivers a flush. I rebuy and get most of it back when I flop the nuts with a straight.
We catch the show and decide to go to Caesars, but we stop to play at O'sheas based on the reviews we've heard of the players. I manage to burn $400 by playing the worst poker in years.
We scratch Caesars and head up to the room to catch some sleep. Thats were things go horribly wrong. Theresa wakes me up at 5:30 in the morning asking me to get some Pepto for her upset stomach. I run downstairs on 1.5 hours of sleep and realize in the elevator that my shirts on inside out. I stumble through the wee hours to the gift store and find the pepto.
Turns out it was much worse than just pepto as my poor wife tells me she can't get up with being dizzy and nauseated. I stay close and head to the Flamingo's poker room. That is when the bad beat jackpot got hit on the table right behind us. I was only mildly interested in hand, until I found out everyone playing in certain casinos would get a piece! It being 11 am on Monday afternoon a lot of the smaller casinos, didn't have many people in them. Harrah's and the Flamingo were the biggest and Harrah's had a tourney going which made those players exempt.
I also hit a set on a flush flop and stacked the slow-playing nut flush when it turned into quads. There was also a high hand jackpot for $83 for quad 5s.
BW tried to make it out but she fell back asleep and I brought here some rice from the Japanese restaurant. She was clearly not in any shape to go out. So I was on my own for the last day.
I ended up going to Caesars and won a few hundred and made a nice little heads up and limit 1/2 - 3/6 set out of $1 and $2 chips. The case is a PCO specialty that jimb eBayed a few months ago.
I also got a bunch of chips for a ct'er which included this rack of new chips.
BW did feel a little better on yesterday and she got some hands in at the Flamingo, she ended up winning and I blew a couple bucks.
My Twitter blog has the info as it happened.
