Exclamation Really Sketchy play... What would you do?

Ok. So Im in a tournament that my friend and I started. 20,000, blinds start at 100 and 200 and go up every twenty minutes. We play a few times a week and everything usually goes super smooth. This game we had ten people which was great cause we usually have 6 or 7. it got down to me and one other guy, lets call him John. He was new to the game and had been running really good all night. You know flopping full houses and the other guy hits the second nuts. Anyway He seemed to have some experience but overall was running good.

I started heads up with 55,000 to his 370,000 so I was really excited to try to take "john" out after he ran over the whole table. About four or five hands into it (I was at about 90,000) I checked on the button with 5 3 and the flop comes 5 K 5 giving me trips. I raise, John Re-raises, and I go all-in. John then says very clearly "I Call". I then turn over my hand because he called me, and His face goes from Happy to pissed. Hears the sketchy part. He then starts mumbling some stuff, and he begins to clam that I flipped my had over be for he say call, and then when he said call he ment to fold but said the wrong term. He was very sure that I was wrong even though everyone around heard the call. eventually I said fine and took the pot with out my crucial double up. Because it was a home game and no one could make a decision for us I backed out and let him pull is BS move. What would you have done in my position? By the way I went on to win even with his Sketchy play. (karma?)

Re: Really Sketchy play... What would you do?

To answer your question if you say call, regardless of what you mean, it is a call. Someone needs to be put in charge of each tourney to make decisions. If they are involved in the hand then a second person should be chosen to have the final say. In this case I would have demanded half of the first and second place prize money and left.

On another note, how were there 425,000 chips in play when ten players started out with 20,000 chips? Something does not add up.

Re: Really Sketchy play... What would you do?

I would crack it and say "You said I CALL so stick your F...K...N chips in the middle a quit tryin to cheat". If that didnt work i would walk around the table get him in a headlock and drag him outside saying "I pity the fool who cheats in my house". This response may depend on how big he is though.

sorry I should have mentioned it was a re-buy tournament, the extra 5000 was from chip ups.

Re: Really Sketchy play... What would you do?

If he's acting in turn, which he was here, then verbal declarations are binding. He called. If he meant to fold then he should have tossed his cards in the muck. You don't need to say 'fold' so he's full of $*%& and a cheat. I would make it known he's no longer welcome at any more games.

That's terrible. I'd call it an angle shoot but it would be insulting to angle shooters.

LOL. That's ridiculous. Not inviting him back is a good move.

I think we are all missing the bigger issue and perhaps we should all stop judging so quickly. Have you sat down and asked him the one important question that may make this make perfect sense?

"Do you have poker related Tourette Syndrome?"

If he answered in the affirmative, I think you owe him a huge apology...

CALL! ... I mean fold... CALL! ...no wait... ALL-IN! CALL! AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGG!

Re: Really Sketchy play... What would you do?

If everyone heard the call, I would have put him on the spot. I'm sure if he turned out to have the better hand he wouldn't have flip flopped his decision.

And to make things more clear he didn't muck his hand. If you thought he said call but he threw his cards away before you flipped over, then he would have had a leg to stand on.
