Why I don't play SnGs (PartyPoker stories)

Well, I haven't played online in quite a while. Couldn't sleep tonight, so gave it a go. Started off three-tabling the usual 10¢/25¢ NLHE (i.e. NL25). Was slaughtering it, and generally getting bored. By the way, see post #2 for me spanking a LAG donk with the hammer.

Anyway, decided to give the $6 SnGs another go. First one had 3 players out after 4 hands.
Yep, they're pretty loose at PP. I finished 5th in the first one. Didn't play stellar; made my usual mistakes (biggest hole in my game is trying to limp with small pairs, only to have somebody min-raise, I call, then somebody min-raises behind, I call, miss the flop, lose a few bets). Anyway, was doing alright in the 2nd one... until a donk decided to go crazy and push/call with KXo... only to catch a straight with his "X"... twice in a row!! Here are the back-to-back hands that took me from 2nd to sidelines:

iNano78 finished in 5 place.

Now, they weren't the worst beats in history, but definitely were suck-outs all around. Who calls an all-in with K8o against a guy who just showed AKs? I don't care if he thought I could be pushing with anything from the short-stack...

Anyway, I got my "revenge" in the next SnG. Took it down handily. And this time, my AK hands held up. Here are back-to-back hands from that one:

Was pretty easy from here on in -- although the heads-up battle went back and forth, with each of us sucking-out at least once to stay alive; highlight was when my beat his when I caught the flush on the river... guess I can suck-out too!

OK, imagine the loosest LAG you've ever seen. Literally raised every hand, opened or unopened, and bet every flop. His stack fluctuated from $10-$60 every few minutes. Well, enter the hammer:

Good point. I think I will next time.

Ya, PartyPoker SnGs are very juicy... just have to get used to the suck-outs, I guess. I have a +ROI at the SnGs, but I guess I always feel more comfortable with cash games. I can multi-table the 6-max, picking among the loosest/worst tables. On top of the stats in the lobby, I just watch them for a few orbits before joining the wait list and/or sitting down, and only sitting if my table position is favourable. And if I play 3 or 4 tables for 2 hours, I'm almost always up on all of them (occasionally down a little on 1; down on 2 tables on a bad day, but always leave with a net profit), so I always feel like a winner...

Whereas the SnGs... Played 3 last night. Finished 5th, 5th, and 1st. Feel like I deserved to do better, given the quality of play. But in the end, net profit was $25 - $18 = $7, which isn't that bad, really. Of course, given the time invested, I could have won about $100 at the cash tables.

Actually, I was playing a couple cash tables during the SnGs... and did win about $100 over that time period...

sigh stupid party not letting me play there anymore. It seems every game at every level on that sight was super soft.

Re: Why I don't play SnGs (PartyPoker stories)

Sort of unrelated, but I don't want to start a new thread. Decided to play a $2 multi-table tourney on P* the other night - for the first time. Here was my outcome:

Dear iNano78,

You finished the tournament in 88th place.
A $4.87 award has been credited to your Real Money account.

You earned 58.07 tournament leader points in this tournament.
Not too bad for my first time. Wish it was a $20 tourney; $3 profit for 4+ hours is a little weak. Especially since I blew through $300 in the cash tables I was playing at the same time. (bad beats to be posted later... once I've cooled down)

Anyway, here were two memorable hands in the tournament: the first got me back in the hunt, and the second permanently crippled me.

iNano78: raises 3000 to 4000
answer03: folds
mcj011486: folds
allskills1: calls 4000
Gambolista: folds
billbisa: raises 5140 to 9140 and is all-in
herkqc: folds
iNano78: raises 5140 to 14280 (meant to raise enough to get allskills1 all-in)
allskills1: calls 10280
*** FLOP *** [ ]
iNano78: bets 1000
allskills1: calls 356 and is all-in
*** TURN *** [ ] []
*** RIVER *** [ ] []
*** SHOW DOWN ***
iNano78: shows [ ] (a pair of Aces)
allskills1: shows [ ] (a straight, Ten to Ace)
allskills1 collected 10992 from side pot
billbisa: shows [ ] (a pair of Aces)
allskills1 collected 29320 from main pot

When billbisa and I ridiculed allskills1 for calling the all-in and re-raise all-in bets, he said "I had to make a stand sometime". Who here would "make a stand" by calling off his chips with KQs against two players who are all-in?

lol. donkaments

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe the current state of online poker is that the rooms which do not allow US players are softer than the ones that do allow US players. As for PP, well, that's always been soft.

Re: Why I don't play SnGs (PartyPoker stories)

Man, I never played Party when I had the chance. I knew it was soft, but all my friends played on Stars. Plus Stars was soft enough for me to win when I wasn't a very good player so I never tried Party. I hate that I never tried it.

So why doesn't Party reverse their decision about US Players? I know they were worried about post uigea, but Stars, Full Tilt, etc are still strong. Heck Doyle's Room is back now I think. So why would Party where US customers once made up 75% of their revenues not come back? Does it have anything to do with the parent company being public on the London Stock Exchange? I don't really know a lot about this, but it seems silly they won't come back. Maybe they are waiting for Barney Franks bill to pass.
