Chips: 21 | | | Fishy lucksacks. Do you play with one? I do. This guy I play with, who is my friend (known him a long time), is the fishiest lucksack I've ever witnessed. I know all the "experts" will say it's "variance" and "you'll come out ahead in the long run", but he sucks out against me at least 9 out of 10 times. No exaggeration. He consistently comes from behind to win hands, mostly against me, but I see him do it to everyone we play with. I am truly amazed at the number of times he gets lucky. I don't know what else to say. Stupid, crazy, call with anything, and get lucky. I am starting to resent him, because I don't feel he deserves his winnings because of his play. I could go on forever, but GD this guy is truly an amazing example of it's better to be lucky than good. Rant over. |

We used to have one of these at our game as well. She would cream everyone.
If you had a full house she'd have a bigger one. When you had her crushed she'd amazingly come from behind.
It also didn't help that she was super annoying. Everyone was always waiting to see how she'd get there next.
My favorite is when she'd say she was trying to lose.
Unbelievable. |

We have one at a game down here also. My best solution has been to:
(1) When I have the best hand -- raise or re-raise huge early in the hand to put him to a test for a lot (or all) of his chips. Don't do this on a bluff, only with good hands. Once you show down a few he will start folding to your raises.
(2) When I have marginal hands -- keep the pot small and fold later in the hand to his raises if it looks/feels like he hit something.
(3) Almost never bluff (him). Play good solid ABC poker.
I've ended up about 50/50 against him lately, but my wins are bigger and my losses are smaller so I'm ahead in $$.
And just hang in there. The fish'll bite better soon! |

I agree with this 100%. I love hitting a river--I feel like I'm cashing in on Karma.
We have a fishy lucky jack at our game. He doesn't win a lot of the tournaments, but he breaks everyone at the cash games. He's in every pot, and hit every gutshot or 2 outer he chases. Everyone just shakes their head.
He's still one of my favorite guys because he's so nice and he doesn't pretend that he's lucky not good. He likes being lucky. I figure that if he takes the risks knowingly, I can't fault him when they pay off.

They are not able to get away from a worse Ace, and they will generally call increasing amounts all the way. If you fleece them for a lot, they'll start playing all-in pots to try to double up, so if you catch a big hand in the interim you'll have a chance at breaking him.
I have one of these guys in my game, he's good for the game. Keeps it loose and gets other people off their game.
All else fails, start playing like him |

I can do very well against bad players in tournaments, but somebody always sucks out against me in the ring games. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
