Just a different style. 6-max is RIDICULOUSLY loose (at least, at the stakes I play on Party)! Like, you'll rarely see a walk or blind-vs-blind, which is pretty much the norm at 9/10-max. Well, then again, if I see 2 walks in a row, I usually leave and find a looser table. But standard raise is to 4-5 x BB from any position, and there'll be 3 or 4 to the flop. I usually just fold everything pre-flop until I get AA-JJ, AKs, maybe limp with big suited-connectors or medium pairs, dump everything else; play 3-4 tables at a time. Even playing that tight, the implied odds are terrific because there's always an idiot or 2 who will call a raise to $1.50 (6 x BB) with A4o or some such $%*&. You just have to be prepared to get sucked out on a lot. Like, it might take me an hour at a $25 table to grow to $75, then I lose it all in one hand when I get it all-in preflop with KK. If that bothers you, stick to the 9-max.

I've been playing that way recently, and have found some success, albeit at microstakes levels. I didn't expect this would ever work at higher levels. Has it worked for you? | it's not my normal mode...but in months where i'm in danger of not getting my silver star i do it to make sure i keep my status. 9-tabling .1/.25 NLHE i get about 80 fpps per hour. 9tabling 1/2 nlhe...obviously is much more productive.
with the bankroll challenge this month i ended up playing many many times less of my normal game, and needed to catch up. i got 1000+ fpps in about 3 sessions at 1/2, and broke even (b/c that's pretty much what happens with the miller strategy).
imo, the strategy works better at higher stakes than at the lower stakes, unless there are several shortstackers at the table (in which case you should find a better table, duh!). the simple fact is that if the big stacks are playing their normal games, the shortstack strategy is difficult/impossible to counter. the bad news is that it's not all that profitable. this is why i only use it for getting my fpps. when i start playing nl200 in earnest, i'm coming deep and laying down the hurt. |

I figured there must have been a reason for it, it didn't seem like you.
Regarding break even - I've actually done better than that at the low limits. It almost seems like people are more than willing to call another $2 all-in (at a .05/.10 table) with nothing, because the limits are so low. I just figured once people get up to the 1/2 limits, they're taking it more seriously. |

Chips: 18,645 | | | Re: Pocket-rockets RULE AAs My experience with A-A in my 30 most recent single-table 9-player SnGs (excluding heads-up matches)....
Total hands: 2,451
Times dealt A-A: 9 total
That's 0.37% or 1 in 272 times, somewhat worse than expected. I seem to be getting a lot of Ace-rags lately, seldom A-K, A-J, or A-10 but too many f'n A-Qs. Results with A-A:
won big = 4
won small = 4
lost big = 1
lost small = 0
1. Reraise PF, call all-in after flop by AJ who hit his J, win big
2. Raise 3xBB over limpers PF, flop A-x-J, check flop, villain pushes all-in on turn with J-J, I call with bigger set and win big
3. Raise 3xBB UTG, button calls w/ A-7, check, check flop, he goes all-in with 7 on the turn, I call and win big
4. Reraise PF, villain re-reraises all-in PF with K-K, I call, win big when neither player improves
5. Limp on button, SB fold, BB check PF, I bet on mixed flop, BB folds and I win small
6. Small stack goes all-in PF, I reraise to isolate, win small vs. Q-J unimproved
7. Villain raises 3xBB PF, I just call. He hits 2 pair on flop, I call all-in and lose my whole stack
8. Limp UTG against very tight table, all fold except SB and BB, check flop, small bet on turn all fold, I win small
9. Raise 3xBB PF, flop comes K-Q-J, check down to river, I win small
Needless to say, I don't think A-A sucks at all. I've learned not to play cute with them.
Sure, I've had my Aces cracked enough times. When I lose, the vast majority of the time it's just a righteous suckout, but some times it's because of my dumb play. But when I lose it's usually a big stack. |

This weekend we were playing a cash game and the flop came K99. Somebody said that K9 was his favorite hand. I explained that generally AA was my favorite hand, but that it does vary post-flop. With a K99 flop, 99 is actaully my favortie hand.
