Chips: 133 | | | Played in the midnight tournament at the Taj on Monday night (tuesday midnight) and.. I'm the chip leader at my table, and i'm dealt AA and promptly raise to 5x BB from early position (and i'm playing TAG). I get a reraise (yippee) of nearly double that, and a guy in late position re-re-raises, so when it comes back around to me I shove my chips in. The re-raiser calls, and the re-re-raiser calls.
Cards get turned over, i'm holding AA, re-raise is holder is holding KK, and the re-re-raiser is holding AK (lol)........but they were suited at least. However, talk about screwed.
But i'm thinking what a suckout if he makes a flush..............
however it didn't happen and my pocket aces held up. The whole table got a kick out of that hand. what are the chances, and both of those guys were middle stack, not really short stacked. With an all-in and a caller after a round of raising and re-raising, I thought it was pretty stupid to call the all in with AK even if they were suited.

But, I think most players would have rode that AKs down the tube playing it much the way this guy did. Being suited is (of course) only a minor improvement over off-suit. The only justification one would have laying a top hand like AK down would be having a solid read on yours or the re-raiser's action where one could put you on AA or KK. |

These tourneys are shovefests so I dont think its a bad play. Plus how many times are you going to run into kings AND aces there? |

BigKyle, you are correct about the shovefest. But not so much in the earlier rounds. The rounds are 15 minutes, and the blinds go up in ridiculous increments in the middle and late rounds. I mean jumps from 12K BB to 15K bb to 20K bb to 30K bb or something along those lines. And yes, at that point it does become a shove fest which I hated. Pretty much up to luck at that point with little/no skill whatsoever. |

for the table, I would say average stack. Not short stacked.........
I know that if he was short stacked, all in would have made sense, but even if he was short stacked, he should have been the one to initiate the all in push and not let the re-raises continue. |

he'd like to be first in, yes. but that doesn't mean he shouldn't call in this spot. |

the beginning story reminded me of a 1/2 100 max cash game i was in at the turning stone once. i had about 400 at this point. AA under the gun.. make it 8. 3 calls and it's at the SB..i am thinking ****...i'll be up against 5 people....thankfully the SB makes it 20 to go. bb folds...i then make it 70. the next person goes all in for about 130 total...folds around to the SB. he shoves for about 200. I am very excited and call.
guy who calls then shoves tables QQ and and SB tables KK.
aa holds up! i tip the dealer nicely. |

ohh, at this stage of the tourney the blinds were relatively small, i believe it was 200/400 and he had maybe somewhere in the neighborhood of 7-8K (the taj tourneys are start you off with 10K in chips). | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
