Pocket-rockets suck AAs

Sorry for the rant, but I really wanted somewhere to post all my "all-in with AA and sucked-out on by some idiot" thread. Got stoned holding AA 12 times yesterday.

Now, it's not always a donkey with 45s that flushes out - there aren't many players that are stupid enough to call a big re-raise pre-flop with that kind of crap (although there are some, and they have an uncanny ability to hit the flop hard). It's usually a smaller big pair that catches a 2-outer.

Here's a lovely example from today:

#Game No : 6655789880
***** Hand History for Game 6655789880 *****
$25 USD NL Texas Hold'em - Friday, January 04, 11:55:32 ET 2008

Total number of players : 6

Seat 6: NZGriffin ( $32.82 USD )
Seat 5: g_wentino ( $28.63 USD )
Seat 1: Smorpher ( $40.87 USD )
Seat 2: riggedbot ( $27.87 USD )
Seat 4: flsamain ( $7.67 USD )
Smorpher posts small blind [$0.10 USD].
riggedbot posts big blind [$0.25 USD].
** Dealing down cards **
Dealt to iNano78 [ ]
iNano78 raises [$1 USD]
flsamain folds
g_wentino raises [$3 USD]
NZGriffin folds
Smorpher folds
riggedbot folds
iNano78 raises [$5 USD]
g_wentino raises [$19 USD]
iNano78 is all-In [$15.09 USD]
** Dealing Flop ** [ , , ]
** Dealing Turn ** [ ]
** Dealing River ** [ ]
g_wentino shows [ , ]three of a kind, Kings.
iNano78 doesn't show [ , ]a pair of Aces.
g_wentino wins $0.91 USD from side pot #1 with three of a kind, Kings.
g_wentino wins $40.41 USD from the main pot with three of a kind, Kings.

But it is nice to know that I'm not the only person this happens to:

Seat 3: Ibetmybikini ( $25.79 USD )

iNano78 shows [ , ]a full house, Kings full of Eights.
dilemack shows [ , ]two pairs, Aces and Eights.
dilemack wins $8.86 USD from side pot #1 with two pairs, Aces and Eights.
iNano78 wins $57.43 USD from the main pot with a full house, Kings full of Eights.

Is it just me, or does anybody else have a net losing record with AA? I always try to get my chips all-in pre-flop, and try to avoid obvious flush or straight situations when I get called and have to play post-flop. There have been several times when I've folded the best hand, but I'd rather lose small and win big than the other way around. Yet, I've played well over 10,000 hands now, and I still lose more money than I win. Meanwhile, one of my best net-profit hands is still QT, since I only play it from the button or blinds, and only play it after the flop if I hit 2-pair or a straight (or better)... and I quite often find myself getting paid off by somebody with AA or KK or AQ, etc.

Re: Pocket-rockets suck AAs

I think that it depends of on the caliber of the players that you're with. I've always had a good run with pocket Aces. But I play with the same bunch, everyone's reasonably savvy and genrerally they all play the odds. If someone goes hard pre-flop, most get out of the way.

I don't play on-line but I guess that you'll strike all sorts on the web.

That said, I got taken out a couple of games ago by our resident Maniac. He's always knocked out early, but on this occassion he took me down first on an outlandish call that came through for him.

Re: Pocket-rockets suck AAs

Pocket aces have been pretty good to me, especially when playing against "better" players. They have been not so great at low limit casino tables though because you just can't get enough people out of the hand. I think that many people have too hard of a time letting go of AA even when it is likely beaten and therefore taking it on the chin when they lose to an inferior starting hand.

If I'm reading this right, this says of the 503 hands where you've been dealt aces, you have won a grand total of 4.5 big bets?

I think that's 4.5BB each time they had Aces.

Obv only play AA from button/blinds.

Maybe Cutoff if you feel the table is tight

Re: Pocket-rockets suck AAs

I'm feeling disenchanted, so, in the spirit of this thread, here's my next bad beat rant:

Pocket 99: Can't win with 'em, can't win against 'em!

Check out these HH's from the same table at Party:

Both opponents that will be featured have generally played like "LAG-maniacs", limping to an opened pot or raising almost every unopened pot. Their raises are generally not indicative of the strength of their hands.

I think I just give these "LAG-maniacs" a little too much credit sometimes. Still had a winning session over lunch (if you include my other tables).

That is correct though its a bit on the low side as I have trouble getting away from them when the $#*$& spikes a set or calls all the way to the river and makes 2pr.
