Chips: 256 | | | Some people just don't know... I felt the need to blow off a little steam...I was playing in a tourney $50 buy-in no re-buys or add ons...paying 9 places...11 people left out of 40+...I am 2 seats left of BB...blinds are 500/1000...seat to left of me folds...I have A/Qs...raise to $4000...everyone to and including dealer fold...small blind all in with $1500...BB has $9000...goes all in...I call (have stack of $14,000 + my raise)...small blind has Q/6s...BB rolls over A/2o...hits 2 on turn with hand...
I was beside myself...I asked him how he could go all-in with A/2s...his reply..."I thought you had a middle pair"...huh?...okay, may be I do have a middle pair I tell him...that makes your 2 basically worthless unless you hit 2 of the final 3 2's left in the deck...so I ask him if he had any idea that there were only 3 cards in the deck that would beat my "middle" pair...he sits there with a dumbfounded look..."ummm, well I had a straight draw"...Ugggggggg!!!
Well, I had to get it off my chest...other players at the table just shook the heads and stared at him...another "Ace Case"....man.... |

I encountered one of these last night online in a $5 + $.50 SnG. Any timhe had A-x he would raise pre flop and if he paired his Ace he would bet heavy. At one point after he sucked out an Ace on the river to beat my pocket queens (he called 2/3 of his stack pre flop with A-5o) I actually typed "so you basically will hang in with Ace anything and push all in if you pair it right?" After that he pushed even harder. Luckily I used the info against him and stacked him later on when I hit trip K's against his pair of Aces
Hang in there and use this players lack of knowledge against them in better situations

I ended up out at 10....may have been on tilt a little..lol...him and the last 2 other players split the 1st 3 places between them...something the tourney director has allowed if all parties are in agreement... |

But - after he goes all in for 9k more - to me an easy laydown. He's a moron, but you could have gotten away from the hand and let them have at it - especially so close to the money.

Nope. He called with QTc.
Runner runner to a straight and knocks me out.
In the long run, the good players will take their money. But in the short run, right after a bad beat, all you wanna do is pummel the donkey. However, I didn't say a word, tapped the table with a nod, and got up.
(I also proceeded to turn $200 into $445 at the cash table in the space of an hour, so that lessened the blow a little).
AND - I am in shock that this guy went OVER THE TOP with the A2. I mean, a call maybe ... but over the top? Wow. Mind boggling. |

This is the kind of player that you should be very nice to. Wish him good luck and invite him to your homegame. At the very least you want to encourage him to come back to that same tourney.
Your actions were kind of silly IMO. The guy paid his money and decided to gamble, you were in great shape, exactly where you wanted to be. He is going to hit a 2 and suck out on you around 25% of the time, this just happened to be the time. If your hand had held up would you have berated him for his bad play? Of course not, so just because the outcome went the other way (which it is supposed to do 1 out of ever 4 times) you treat him like he is an idiot and insult him in front of the whole table.
All you are doing is looking like a poor sport, and encouraging this player (who is a major source of chips for you in such a tournament) to never come back. It is not only a -EV action on your part, but you kind of look like an @ss. Next time just keep it yourself and then you can come on here and rant. |

I spoke to him just as if we were having a regular conversation. It was to a small degree, a way of trying to eduacate him some; I had people talk to me similar to that when I first started, I looked at it as just that, a hands on education.
Even if I would have won the hand I know I would have asked him why he went all in with his hand...if not purely as future reference and curiosity. |

No reason to educate the fish though .
I still gotta say though that there really isn't any reason to be upset. you got the exact situation you wanted. If preflop someone told you that you were going to get called and have a chance to improve to a very large stack and your opponent would only have 3 outs I'm sure you would take it.
I'll leave it be as a bad beat thread, since I'm sure you don't want to be reminded of it anymore. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
