Re: Variance Sucks!

OUCH!

Don't you just LOVE when someone makes a stupid play AND gets paid off for it?

He puts 2500 in (his 5700 bet had you covered) to win 750 and doesn't hold a K?!

A simple feeler bet would have told him he was beat.

Perfect play, great odds, sh!tty result. Oh well, at least it was against strangers instead of, say, Mrticsay...

Re: Variance Sucks!

Bad play on the part of the opponent but sucking out is part of the game. If they don't suck out once in awhile, the fish would stop playing. I would say, just be thankful that there are such players. At least that is what I tell myself when I get suck out, it helps a bit.

I actually laughed because when he pushed, I was slightly afraid that he had something like K7. When he showed T9, I said to myself...well as long as he doesn't make......QUADS..."

It was definitely easier to take because I was already ITM.

Indeed! Had it happened when Mrticsay and I were HU at "the Meet in the Heat", it would have hurt MUCH worse.

That's purely a matter of perspective.

And it wouldn't have hurt so much then, but with your chip advantage gone it would have been a slow pain that I inflicted until you finally said "UNCLE!"

I know suck outs are part of the game. I don't mind the ones so much where the opponents play "makes sense" versus the ones that don't. For example, a short stack pushing with AQ, that gets called by AK, and wins when the Q hits is "acceptable" because the push was an appropriate play. Or, someone who thinks their two pair is good, but you have a better hand, and then they make their boat.

But the AI against Trevor doesn't fit my definition of "makes sense"...a bet makes sense, but not an AI. There all suck-outs, but some are more "annoying" than others.

Re: Variance Sucks!

I should have qualified my statement earlier by saying that I would never expect Michael to make the same play as the villain did. So he wouldn't have had the chance to suckout like the hand above.
