I've been running my own home tourney once a month for nearly a year now. And the best I've been able to place is 2nd. One of my friends finally hosted his own tourney (joining two groups together to make a nice 16-player, 2-table event) and I got in on the action.
Perhaps it's because I was able to focus on my play instead of running the event. Or the fact that I've been honing my tourney skills later. But I took 1st place (and a pretty decent pot).
Not big fireworks on the last hand, or the heads up. I went into heads up with a dominating chip stack. I played aggressive and whittled him down as the blinds got scary. Then I raised with TT, he pushed with his 89o.
I just want to say congratulations on the win. I bet it was a nice change of pace to be able to just relax and play instead of having to make sure all of the guests are comfortable. Sometimes a little change is all it takes. And I'm sure the honing of your tourney skills contributed to the win also. Keep it and GOOD LUCK.
It was very nice to not have to think about all the details and responsibilities that come with running the game (although, this guy organized this game based on mine, so I was still kind of a consultant). Then I went ahead and used my big win $$$ to go ahead and order a Poker Genie... just to make it even a little easier on me from here on out!
And I sure hope the wins come a little more often now. In looking back at the game, I think I only made about 1 or 2 truly bad plays and several that may have been a little too conservative... But it was one of my all-around more solid efforts. Which, again, I hope continues to occur!
If I could get some more money into PS, I'd hope on the CT tourneys now and again. But I pissed all my cash away on there before I really started developing my games.
