Chips: 594 | | | Questions about WSOP.... Not sure where to post this, so here it goes.
I'm heading out for a long weekend in 2 weeks, and I have a few questions, especially for those who have been out there this year.
1. Best way to get to the Rio from the strip right now? We're staying at MGM. Bally's still have the shuttle running back and forth? Is it a nightmare? Better off with a cab?
2. How crazy is it to get into event satellites? We're planning on heading straight over there on the 28th and play a few.
3. Cash games, just as soft on the strip as they are rumored to be at the Rio? (I hesitate to ask this right now because my recent play has been donktastic so what does it matter!)
4. Specific Rio question: Any of you guys who are or have been out there this year, is it ridiculous to try to eat at any of the restaurants at the Rio? Specifically that seafood buffet place?
5. Strip cash games - easy to get into? did you find any long wait lists on the weekend or anything?
Feel free to add in any other random things you think I need to know.
Thanks guys! |

Try the shuttle (they were running every 15 minutes), if the line is long or full - use a cab. Free is free.
If you take a cab - make sure to tell the driver to drop at the convention entrance. Save your legs.
2. How crazy is it to get into event satellites? We're planning on heading straight over there on the 28th and play a few.
Early (like to noon or 1) - not too bad, 2-8 = wicked lines. After 8 - was shorter again. Kind of depends on what is running. Overlapping events = less free tables and less dealers to run the sats.
3. Cash games, just as soft on the strip as they are rumored to be at the Rio? (I hesitate to ask this right now because my recent play has been donktastic so what does it matter!)
yep - I played cash ping pong between harras and the mirage. I thought that harras was an easier game as there were always a few people with a clue playing. Will probably depend on the limit and game you want to play.
Rio started at 4/8 limit and was playing like a loose 2/4 game. UTG raise meant nothing to anyone and flops routinely had 7 players.
4. Specific Rio question: Any of you guys who are or have been out there this year, is it ridiculous to try to eat at any of the restaurants at the Rio? Specifically that seafood buffet place?
The buffet is usually packed. There is a smallish bar/restaraunt (americas bar I think) that usually had a seat or two available. There is also a cafe set up near the series that is decent unless one of the major tournies is on break.
5. Strip cash games - easy to get into? did you find any long wait lists on the weekend or anything?
depends on the limit - if you are a low limit junkie like me (3/6), the lines moved fast. |

Thinking about going down in a couple weeks, but it's a pretty bad time work wise. I may take a run at a $1500 event and I 'think' the 2-5 and 5-10 NL games ought to be juicy enough to justify it, but I want to get some input before I take the leave.
Thanks,

We didn't eat there though. We played at Caesar's and the 3/6 game was very soft. Line wasn't too bad and we only had one bad dealer (and even she wasn't that bad), which surprised me since a bunch of th regular staff was over at the Rio. |

Here goes:
1. Best way to get to the Rio from the strip right now? We're staying at MGM. Bally's still have the shuttle running back and forth? Is it a nightmare? Better off with a cab?
Cab. $5 buck, /problem. Other advantage to a cab, no wait, always there when needed, and they will take you to the WSOP valet around back, where the shuttle of any sorts will take you to the front of the Rio, leaving you a 10 minute walk.
2. How crazy is it to get into event satellites? We're planning on heading straight over there on the 28th and play a few.
Not crazy at all. Get your cash, and stand in the appropriate line / signup. Remember that satellites pay in tourney chips. NOT cash. You need to sell the chips to other players or at the cage to people registering. Not hard to do, but something to remember.
3. Cash games, just as soft on the strip as they are rumored to be at the Rio? (I hesitate to ask this right now because my recent play has been donktastic so what does it matter!)
I actually think the cash games at the Rio are some of the tighter and tougher games to break. Very nitty. There are many other games which are much easier pickings with a ton of low hanging fruit.
4. Specific Rio question: Any of you guys who are or have been out there this year, is it ridiculous to try to eat at any of the restaurants at the Rio? Specifically that seafood buffet place?
During a break on a WSOP event, yes, can be difficult. Off those hours, not at all. The cafe, buffet and other rests. are pretty easy to get into with minimal wait.
5. Strip cash games - easy to get into? did you find any long wait lists on the weekend or anything?
My preference during the WSOP for the past 2 or 3 years. Cash games off the strip. Look into the MGM,. Mirage, Wynn, Caesar's, and Harrah's. All cash games that can be popped like a grape. |

I'll be there July 1st - 4th. Hopefully I can enter a few. |
