Chips: 533 | | | My wife played her first game of poker tonight At the local $20 crap shoot tourney...
Two tables of 10, and she was the first alternate. She ended up getting 4th place out of 25 players. I think I was 18th.
I lost top pair to a set three times in the first two rounds and went from chip leader to out. Hate the format of that tourney, but I'm really proud of my wife.
Now if she would only stop rubbing it in. (hence the bad beat section) |

DON'T EVER KNOCK OUT YOUR WIFE for any reason, but also from a tournament. |

Chips: 196 | | | Re: My wife played her first game of poker tonight I tried to get my g/f into poker about 3 years ago when I was playing in a lot of home games...
So, I got her to play some heads up with me.
First game (and last game) probably 10 minutes into it, she thinks she is being sneaky and is slow-playing a straight, little does she know that I have a flush after the turn. She used to and still watches poker on TV with me at times so she kind of knows what she is doing, hence the slow-play.
So, she makes a big bet on the river and I go all in (3 clubs on the board, 2 in hand). She calls and proudly flips over her straight, she sees my flush and then cries......literally.
I make fun of her for it regularly and we still have not played again. She explains that she was so proud that she was being smart like on TV with her straight and thought she won, then lost. Her crying wasn't a big surprise to me since she is super-emotional, not in a bad way though.....cries after watching TV shows like Home Makeover all the time and other stuff like that.
So, never beat your wife.

-Wayne | Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Important addition:
If you should decide to bluff in a hand against your wife, and she lays down her cards, don't EVER show her that you were bluffing.
Just tell her, "I had you beat, good lay down." And leave it at that. |

She routinely gets into hands she has no business being in only to suck out on the river. She has cashed large (big stacks at the table) for the past few games.
A couple of games ago I watched with pride as she slow played a flopped full house against one of my buddies. She just kept calling the increasing bets my buddy was throwing in the pot until the river where her all in move felted him for the third time that night. All I could say was "I love you Honey."

All I could say was "I love you Honey." | How not to play against your wife: (Actual hand)
On the FIRST HAND OF THE NIGHT you are in middle position and look down to see 9 9. You give the 2 limpers before you a standard 3x BB raise, and only get called by your wife in a later position. Everyone else folds.
Watch the flop come down 5 5 7. You check to her, she checks back.
Watch the turn card come a 9. Bet half the pot into her. She raises you. You flat call.
River is a 10. Check to your raising wife, who proceeds to push all in.
You make the call, only have her turn over 7 7, having flopped a house, but you turned a better house.
Proceed to get evil glares for the next 2-3 hours, as if you had planned to take all of her money in the first 10 minutes, because you aspired to prove you are a better player than she is.
Try in vain to explain to her later in the kitchen that at least it was you that won the hand, which of course in the end is really our money, only to enrage her further, because you had to go and remind her again that you took all of her money in the first 10 minutes. |

She was so excited! She bet the max, everyone else folded, and I just couldn't lay down my quads... She had a boat, by the way.
I didn't get any for a week!
