This will be a mulit-post thread, recapping the action, or lackthereof, of my latest 4 days in Vegas, where I accompanied Dan. His version of events can be found
here. Please note, this will be quite long, possibly wordy, and even more likely not too interesting. Read at your own boredom. A while back Dan and I were talking, and he mentioned his upcoming trip to Vegas for work, and his extended stay. I've been kinda moping around the first couple months of the year, so I was saying OK before he even asked me to join him.
Day 0: Wednesday.
The best direct flight deal I could find was JetBlue out of Logan. I much prefer to fly out of Providence, but alas, no direct flights. And if I'm headed to Vegas from the east coast, I'm certainly always flying direct. So my flight was scheduled to leave at 8pm, and arrive 11pm local. That meant I had to spend the whole day at work with my packed bag. Work was uneventful, albeit quite long, and I called it a day well before 4, but had to stick around anyways, as the bus to the airport wouldn't take long. So I just shot the breeze with some of my staff to kill the last hour or so, and took my time walking to South Station. Got to the airport even quicker than I thought, grabbed a burger and a couple beers, and headed to the terminal.
I wasn't too happy that I'd be missing Lost. I really didn't want to wait until Monday to see it, but then I realized JetBlue has DirectTV. Sweet! Well, the gate was pretty full, and of course we boarded 20 minutes late. But the pilot said we'd make up the time in the air. After we take off, I start flipping the channels on my screen, and quickly become perplexed. Okay, there's ESPN. ESPN2. CBS. NBC. Fox. HGTV. Comedy Central. SCI-FI. A bunch of other channels. Only no ABC. WTF! ESPN and ABC are both Disney channels, right? Seriously, WTF!! So I end up watching Jericho and Criminal Minds for lack of sheer boredom, but I don't get my fix of Lost. What a bunch of crap.
I maybe doze for 20 minutes total, but we land right before 11pm! Woohoo!
Only thing is, we suddenly stop in the middle of a runway and the engines shut off. Once again I find myself saying WTF! I mean we're finally in Vegas! I'm less than 30m away from a poker table and a bunch of drinks. So the captain comes on and says the gate isn't ready for us. There's another plane still there. They only knew we were coming for 6 hours, but hey. Captain says it should be 15 minutes. I text Dan that we're delayed in the plane, and he tells me he's watching Lost. DAMMIT!!!
I start watching PAD, but also text Dan that watching Poker After Dark while being stuck on a plane in Vegas is a terrible experience.
Twenty minutes later he comes back on the line and says that he's sorry for the lack of information, but the tower is calling him right now. Five minutes later he says the other plane is now being loaded, and should be out of the gate in 10 minutes. So all in all, we were stuck on the plane at Vegas airport for 40 minutes.
I jet through the airport with my carryon, and am thankful the cab line is ridiculously short. We seem to take a long time to get to the Palms, but at least I'm not on the plane. Meetup with Dan in the lobby, and we drop off my bag in the room. Dan asks what I want to do. He doesn't really want to go to the strip tonight, since we have to check out of the Palms the next morning and head over to the IP. So we head down to the Palms poker room to play some low limit games. They're only spreading one 2-4 game and one 4-8 game. Both are full, so we put our names on both lists. I get called for the 2-4 game. 15-20 minutes later Dan gets into the 4-8 game.
I proceed to drop $80 in the 2-4 game in about 30 minutes. Then I get called for the 4-8 game in the 4 seat, right to the left of Dan in the 3 seat. I don't recall too many hands from 2-4.
Twice I had TT and lost both times. Both times I raised pre-flop, bet out on each street. First time I flopped an overpair, but got called down by KQ or AJ that hit on the river. At SD, one other player was laughing at me for raising with TT. He said he never raises with TT. Second TT hand I raise, flop is J74. Again I bet out on each street and lose to AQ I think.
Only other hand I remember, I raise on the button with A

K

. 5 callers. Flop is A

K

T

I bet out and get 3 callers. Turn is J

. I bet out and there are 2 callers. River is 6

. I check, and there's a bet and a raise to me. I fold. SD reveals A

4

and A

6

. Aces over sixes takes the pot. Sweet.
I win 196 on the 4-8 table in the next few hours. Only hand of note I remember, is having 6

6

on the button. I'm the 5th caller, and the BB raises. 7 to the flop that's something like J

5

4

. BB bets, and all call to me, who also calls. Turn was a T I believe, and it's checked around! River is a 6, so I raise the BB river bet, who is pissed at my set. Besides Dan and I, all the other players seemed to know each other, and 3-4 of them all told the guy he should have bet the turn. Duh.
So around 4 or so we leave the locals to their crappy game, and go up to sleep. Sleeping my first night in Vegas. That was a first. Booo.
