Do you have a nemesis?

I do. This guy that plays in my home game seems, no, does, win every showdown against me. It has almost become a joke with everyone we play with. If I go all in or bet big he will call with anything and come from behind to win. Then I see him smirking and everyone at the table thinks it's hilarious. It is coming to the point where I am getting too angry because this has been happening for the last 3 months at least. He wins EVERY showdown. Not all of my hands are super-premium, but he hits runner-runner for 9 high straights while holding 57 off, or calls with suited 63 to hit a flush, or calls with pocket sevens when I have two pair, then he hits trips. I don't understand how someone can be so lucky against one person. I really want punch him in the throat next time this happens. Whew, I know I sound like a whiny biotch but enough is enough. He can't be lucky forever can he?

Re: Do you have a nemesis?

You gotta start trapping him with the nuts if he's calling you with apparently anything.

I think this is your best approach. At the very least it will be unexpected.

The feeling is mutual. That list + philthethrill & jojo. I keep myself on the list as I'm sometimes myself my worst enemy.

I know the feeling. I also have a nemesis in the home game I play in. Since we play Dealer's Choice with so many different variations of games we usually end up going head to head against each other quite often when we play in a night. We also exchange verbal jabs at each other throughout the night as well. We are neighbors but we really don't like each other, especially when playing cards. He does get extremely lucky against me at times as well. As far as the win/loss record against each other I think we are almost about even, but last time I nailed him pretty good during a hand of Holdem when I flopped the nut straight that held up and he pushed all in with a small pair

Yes, her name in Monica.
I was engaged to her once upon a time.

Re: Do you have a nemesis?

Interesting topic. Thanks for mentioning me as one of yours, Matt. I know it all stems back to that HU hand we played way back at the Chicago CT meet-up. Let it go already!

Point of clarification, however... doesn't the word "nemesis" connote a single adversary? Batman has many enemies, but his nemesis is the Joker, right? The Riddler, the Penguin, and Two-Face are his enemies, but the Joker is his true nemesis.

But anyway, back on topic. The flip side of having a nemesis (or many) is that you play better against them. You concentrate more. I'd argue having tough opponents is a good thing (sometimes).

And there are no shortage of tough customers here at CT. I've heard it commonly mentioned that the skill and competition level you'll encounter at a regular old Thursday night tourney far outstrips anything else you might find online or even live. Winning a CT tourney is like getting through a phalanx of the best Spartan soldiers (I threw this in for Lisa, our resident Classics geek). There are really good players at every table.

My list:

Jojo (right back atcha, big guy!)
FSU
Brakedust
w16227
msmjcjjjas (abby99)
solberg (aka, the "tool")
spacemonkey
mhglmrt (mrticsay)
ratatosk (bolgenmod, aka "Toots")

And last, but not least, raiderjoe. The disturbing thing about Joe is that he owns my sorry poker-playing ass, and we both know it.
