My first Casino cash game

Today I played in my first casino cash game, and I thought I would let you all know how it went.

I played at my local Indian casino (Riverwind Casino, Goldsby, OK). I played $1-$2 No Limit Holdem game. I bought in for $100 at noon and cashed out for $230 at 8:00pm.

There were no great suckouts, bad beats, or really interesting stories to tell - just straight up poker for the most part. I was all-in about 5 times and my high points and low points were $267 and $23 respectively.

The best part of the day was the learning experience. I was suprised by how much my chips would vanish on one bad hand and then reappear on one good hand. We usually play $0.25 blinds in my garage, so I was not really used to the $200 swings in this game. I also realized how much I have to learn in the way of staying focused on the fundamentals of poker and not lose sight of always making good decisions. Its too easy to make bad decisions when you are just going through the motions. This is one of the main reasons I wanted to play for that length of time - to test myself on a solid session of poker.

Overall, it was a great day. The people were friendly, and I learned alot. I plan to go back next week and test my skill and try my luck again.

One last thing, the tables were nice but I did not like the chips. They are Chipcos and my stacks were all full of spinners. They did not shuffle well either. I don't know if this is a common thing with Chipcos or if it was just these chips, but I consider them garbage next to my PNYs (I still brought some home for my collection though). Here is a link to pics of the chips http://www.chipguide.com/cgi-bin/sea....cgi?id=okgori

Re: My first Casino cash game

Swings like that are common at that level and they tend to keep you focused. I'm happy to read you came home a winner. I noticed a lot of spinners and off center printing on the Chipcos at Bally's LV. I can't explain it. I think the quantity of bad chips is unacceptable. As much as I love the feel of chipcos my custom ceramics are probably not going to be done by them. Good luck on your next trip.

More than doubling your buy-in is pretty darn good for your first casino outing. Nice job. Now they got you hooked!

Re: My first Casino cash game

Good job on the endurance test. 8hrs is just normal for a card room veteran but is an awfully long time for any other group of people (besides internet junkies Sounds like you have a lot of experience on the felt, just not in a card room. How was the pace of the game? Did you feel rushed?

Re: My first Casino cash game

Thanks to all for the comments. I hope my next outing is worthy of another "I did well" post.

Actually yes. When I first sat down, I was very suprised at how fast things moved. It was almost twice as fast as the home game that I'm used to playing in. But I eventually settled in.

Cool. That's the #1 hurdle moving into the card room. If in doubt, look at the dealer, if it's your turn a good dealer will be looking right back at you
