Now I see what they meant.

When I was running good, it was all mai tais and shuffleboard. Now I can't win a hand to save my life. I'm questioning whether or not I can actually play cards or if I was just running good for a couple years. This is insane.

I can't beat $10NL.

I can't beat 25¢/50¢ HORSE.

I can't even beat 50¢/$1 LHE!

ugh.

no sympathy necessary, I just needed to write this down.

Re: Now I see what they meant.

You may not need sympathy, but I will give it to you!! I had a period of almost 3 months where I rarely got a decent hand, and when I did it lost ("best" was my flopped set of aces losing on the river to flopped set of Qs when case Q fell). Just keep playing your game. I know from reading your posts that you take the game seriously, so I am sure you are looking to make sure you are not making any major errors. Sometimes the cards are just cruel...

Re: Now I see what they meant.

thanks guys. Thing is, running bad does lead to playing bad. I see these mistakes AS I'M MAKING THEM. I know that I shouldn't call, yet I do. I see that my awesome razz hand has just gotten run down yet I still call. Now, it's worked out a couple times when villan either was paying attention and knows I'm steaming some or is just a worse player than I am and bets out at me with a Q.

Well, you just have to STOP IT then!! Seriously, I know you read (and even post) on 2+2, so you know about the evils of variance and how long bad streaks can last. So you know what you need to do: you need to first make sure you are not just seeing monsters under the bed ("I'm on a bad streak, so I KNOW he has me beat") and then FOLD. Much easier said than done, of course.

During my horrible streak, I was only playing my home game, a slow slow game where we probably saw a maximum of 18 hands an hour. It was torture to fold fold fold. Or raise with black Ks and then see an all diamond A-high flop. etc. etc. But I grit my teeth and folded and folded and folded. And watched my stack dwindle every week. But I just kept trying to play my best game, and not play silly hands. TRY to play your best game no matter how bad it gets.

If I (a wimpy female college professor) can find the guts to just play though my cold streak, surely YOU can!!

Re: Now I see what they meant.

Take a break from poker and do something else that you enjoy. Clear your head. Everybody needs a vacation once in a while, even from poker. It really does help.

Re: Now I see what they meant.

Yeah, I'm trying to play smart. The sick thing is, this is the "ease in" *after* a break.

I was playing really poorly in December so I took all of January off.

It'll come around. I'll keep grinding along and hopefully I'll take shots at the right time. One good tournament cash could send me on my way.

Oh, BTW... I quit 2+2 because of all the infighting and drama. Maybe I'll make a new name and stick strictly to the strat. forums... dunno.
