Last night I hosted a $15 buy in T10,000 No Limit Hold Em tournament. We started with 9 players and I made it down to the final 3.
I was the short stack at the table when I was dealt A2 offsuit in the BB. The player to my left is a regular in my game who plays pretty tight. He limped in to the pot on the button and something told me he might be trying to trap holding a big hand. After the SB folded and I decided to check. The flop was A45 rainbow. I decided to push hoping he didn't have a big Ace. I was scared when he called, but he turned over KcQc and he was dead to running cards. It was a horrible call and I was ready to rake in the pot. The turn was a 3 giving me the straight. However, the river was a 2 making a straight on the board and a chopped pot.
On the very next hand I'm dealt A9 in the SB. The player to my right was a new player who was getting lucky all night and had a monster stack. I didn't have much of a read on him. He made the minimun raise on the button, so I decided to move all in to try and double up. He calls and turns over AT. I am in bad shape. The flop came 86T rainbow giving him his 10, but it also gave me a gutshot straight draw. The turn is a 7 giving me a straight again!! However, the river was a 9 making a straight on the board and a chopped pot.
Back-2-Back Chopped Pots when I had a straight on the turn. If I double up on either of those hands and I probably go on to win the tournament. Instead I went out a few hands later with Qd9d vs. the monster stack with Kc3c.
I've never seen this happen before. Anybody else??

Ive never seen that before. But i think you made the right play on both accounts. Ive seen some wierd cards in my day but never back to back chopped pots with 4 card straights.
Re: Back-2-Back Chopped Pots When I Turned A Straight
One time I saw back to back chopped pots with two players getting all the money in preflop both holding pocket AA. Its statistically improbable but stranger things have happened.
Whats more improbable, that or getting back to back flopped quads rung up by a turned or rivered one outer for bigger quads. Had that happen to me in a tournament one time.

How did you survive the first hand in order for it to happen again the next hand?
