if it werent for donks... i would lose less often :)
two suckouts... one from me... one from my old man....
i was playing a tourney this past friday at UC. it as a freeroll college sponsored tourney for 200 first place.... i didnt expect to win because i knew there would be too many morons...
started at 64 players... 8 to a table... we get rid of two in the first blind level... they dont bring us another player until two blind levels later.... we were on the far end of the room so they NEVER brought us more than that one person... we kept trading our own money around.. other tables start combining and our big stack is one o the shortest stacks in the room compared to the other tables.
i make it to the top twenty and go all in on the BB with AKspades. i get a call by the button... he flips over 68D!!!!! told me he wasnt gonna get a hand better than any two suited connectors... i had him covered by 10... he flopped a flush and i lost... three hands later i put my last ten in with JQo. flopped top pair. lost to a flush. couldnt complain there.
my old man played at a tourney saturday... called me shortly after it started and i jokinly asked him if he was out already and he said he was the first one out... second hand of the tourney
Hero is in the BB with AA and races to 400 (25/50 blinds) after it gets back to him
five people call!!!
flop is Q72rainbow...
Hero pushes all in
one caller flips over pocket 3's
Hero asks how the villain could make that call he says'i thought you were on a draw'
'what ********draw? theres no draw on the board you moron'
turn is a 3... hero goes home.
is it possible to beat stupid? or should we just not try?
Re: if it werent for donks... i would lose less often :)
The way you described the first tournament, it sounds like a crap shoot if your tables chip leader was one of the SS of the tournament. In that case, I can't even imagine how many (or in this case how little) BB's you had left. The structure was gonna force you to gamble for a big stack and a subsequent shot at the win. Therefore I may call with the 86d too, honestly, you're so low that your live suited connecters will usually give you a 40% chance to double up...if he has an overpair then so be it, but with the structure in place you have to take shots at those 60/40 races.
In the second tournament, I think it's pretty stupid to make it 400 when the blinds are only 25/50 (8 x BB is a ridiculous opening raise...why not just shove as an openng raise)....he's raising way too much and risking winning just the blinds with AA (very big waste).
Re: if it werent for donks... i would lose less often :)
its hard to play to overplay AK when your short stacked.... i also think theres a difference between going all in with 58d and calling an all in with 68d...
also, had my old man pushed i have no doubt he would of still gotten a call from the pocket 3's. if he's willing to call it on the flop with three overcards then he's surely willing to call it preflop then.

nah, if it weren't for donks, we would still have our money...seems that I usually get beat by a donk, then the donk gets beat by the guy sitting next to me when he tries it again.
