Chips: 634 | | | Bad Beat jackpot Almost This is a long story so bear with me.
I am sitting at at 5-150 NL game at a local casino (Casino AZ). I have been playing like 2 hours when this 21 year old kid sits down and starts to play. HE starts off by just ripping everyone at the table for how they play even though he is loosing money. This Old lady (around 70) Tells him to shut up after about an hour of listening to his crap. 30 minutes later. He is under the gun and raises $25 and the old lady on the button is the only caller. Flop comes A-K-K. He goes all in for his last $100 and she immediately calls. By rules of the casino cause there is a Jackpot possiblility they can not flip the cards over until the end. The turn is an A. And he immediately says well because of this old bag lady we all have won the bad beat jackpot. Everybody smirks at this kid cause he is such an A$$. they deal the river and he flips over AA for quads. ...KEEP in mind the bad beat jackpot is at 24k.. She goes well you have me beat but I hate you kid and I have enough money so she shows KK and then mucks the cards so no one wins the jackpot and the kid flips out. SHe turned down 12K so that kid wouldn't win anymore money!!! |

A 70 year old lady playing the hold'em, eh? Cool. |

In fact, most of the details are the same (old lady and annoying hotshot, old lady costs kid money from a BB jackpot)... and I don't think I'm the only one here that's heard this story before.
I'm surprised that since you were at the table, you weren't pissed at the old lady for costing you a bunch of (free) money. Or the rest of the table, for that matter...
I do have a question, though: he was all-in at the flop, and she called, so there's no more betting action. The river was dealt, so the hand was at the showdown... he showed his aces, and she showed her kings to the table (including the dealer and a floorperson, assuming one was called over because of the jackpot possibilitiy). Why does it matter that she mucked her cards afterwards? Everyone saw what she had at the showdown, and that the hand qualified for the jackpot. There was no further betting possible... why isn't the jackpot awarded? I agree it would be different if she mucked before showing her cards, but that wasn't the case.
(I should mention that those are some crazy blinds you play down there in AZ (5-150 NL? Wow!) ) |

However, I should mention that those are some crazy blinds you play down there in AZ (5-150 NL? Wow!) | The blinds are 2-5 and the min buy in 150. They call it 5 150 game. Yeah well i was the benificiary of about 400 from that guy so I am not really too upset! I am actually happy that that guy didn't win 6k cause he was such an jerk. |

Two elderly women checked it down an hit the bad beat. The answer to why after the hand was, we are friends and we don't bet against each other. With only $28 in the pot, no bad beat was paid |

who cares if the idiot gets paid? he will still be an idiot (no change) and old lady will have a few grand for witnessing a random event. so what if old lady doesn't need the money? she's penalizing 7 other poor saps at the table for the fact that the guy holding quad aces is a jerk.
spite is a dangerous, dangerous thing in the world . . . and just stupid in poker.
