Wild Hand from Saturday night...

I played in a 60-person tournament on Saturday night and finished 13th (not bad, not great), but the hand I busted out on was amazing. I raise preflop to $4800 (BB was 1200) and get two callers...not exactly what I was hoping for with pocket 66, but I was getting short-stacked, wasn't catching many hands, and needed to make a move.

Flop comes 5 6 7 rainbow. I'm thinking woo-hoo, caught trips and the chances of someone catching a straight have got to be pretty low as I put my two callers on high pairs or Ax something like that. I throw in my remaining $1k, the next guy raises all-in to $15k+ (tournament amount of course, not real $). The second of my original callers is pondering another call of the $15k and says he can't lay down what he has and makes the call. We all start flipping over cards, and the last caller to my right flips over 55 for trip 5s, i flip my 66 for trip 6s, and the guy to my left (all-in for $15k) flips over 77 for trip 7s. Turn and river were blanks for everyone. Definitely the craziest hand I've seen in a while. -m

you raised to 4800 and left yourself with only 1000?

I like to bet in multiples of the BB, at least preflop. My thinking was this: I'm UTG and the $4800 bet would (hopefully) convey a strong hand (stronger than my actual 66) and I'd get to pick up the blinds and stay around for another orbit and hopefully catch some better cards. While this left me with only $1000, i thought it made my hand look stronger by making it appear that i was planning on staying in the game beyond that bet. I thought an all-in bet at that point would be more likely to get callers than a 4x raise of the BB.

Re: Wild Hand from Saturday night...

How did someone have trip-fives when there was no 5 on the board? I assume that was some sort of typo?

Yep, typo. Sorry about that. Fixed in original post. Flop came 5 6 7. Thanks for pointing that out Kyle.

Re: Wild Hand from Saturday night...

That's definitely a Twilight Zone hand! Wooooo.

Hard to say that any one of you played it wrong (except maybe the guy wagering $15K on his 55). In my experience, anybody with a lower set vs. set has a very high probability of going out that hand....

Re: Wild Hand from Saturday night...

They obviously didn't know that each of them had a set until they turned over. And as ink_junkie demonstrated, it is hard to put someone on trips, especially when you have trips.
Three players with trips, and in sequence like that, that's crazy.

Exclamation Re: Wild Hand from Saturday night...

I've seen trips vs trips head's up. But, trip "trips" and in sequence...no freakin way. That's crazy...

That's the type of hand that your feelings are conflicted. You're upset that you are out but are amazed at what you saw.

That's crazy man...

That is crazy... I didn't see it, but a guy I played with yesterday saw quads vs. quads last week...
