Chips: 80 | | | wacky cash game hand my freind and i host a biweekly cash game here in columbus. we usually have 3 to four table of nl holdem going on, with blinds ranging from .25/.50 up to $1/$2.
late into our last game, we had consolidated down into one table with the eight players left at 2 in the morning or so. one of our regulars, shooter, on my right and a buddy of mine, milestone, on my left.
the particular hand as is follows...
shooter in the small blind, myself in the big, miles utg.
miles calls the .50 bb
folds around to shooter, who raises to $2
i look down at pocket jacks, my favorite hand. i re-raise to $5
miles looks at me and says, "my hand has as much of a chance as yours does, i call."
flop comes 6-j-7 all diamonds.
shooter checks.
i bet $10
miles raises to $20
shooter goes all in. shooter is the big stack at this point with about $115 in front of him.
i am holding top set, and have about $50 dollars left in front of me. now, ive played shooter and miles both, many times. i have a good read on both of them. i know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that im beating shooter. miles, on the other hand, is more of a wild card. i decided that if i called, miles would have to have the nut flush to call as well. so, i decide to call.
miles calls, quickly.
ruh roh.
shooter flips over pocket sixes.
i show down my pocket jacks.
miles, the nutcase, is holding a-5 of diamonds.
the turn is a 9 of spades.
the river is a 9 of hearts.
i make the boat, and take down the hand. worth about $170 total. one of the biggest hadns ive ever been in at a home cash game.
as an aside, miles was almost right. at the beginning of the hand, the percentages werent nearly as bad as i thought for him. i was about 50% to win, miles, with his a-5 suited, was about 35%, and shooters pocket sixes were way behind, at about 15%. interesting.
anyways, thought i would share.
i love my jacks. |

However I must say that JJ is my death hand as I have found that I always seem to lose, whether it be to over cards or even under cards. Quote: |

There will always be divine intervention that kills your jacks dead, even if you have quad jacks an airliner will crash through your roof disrupting the table so the hand has to be redealt. So it is written...Genisis 3:19

equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 54.4058 % 54.31% 00.10% { JJ }
Hand 2: 17.5697 % 17.47% 00.10% { 66 }
Hand 3: 28.0245 % 27.93% 00.10% { A5s }
it's not close! in fact, A5s has less than it's share of equity, and JJ is practically sucking all the air out of the room! if the JJ and the 66 have NO hearts...
equity (%) win (%) tie (%)
Hand 1: 53.8213 % 53.75% 00.07% { JcJd }
Hand 2: 17.3594 % 17.29% 00.07% { 6d6s }
Hand 3: 28.8193 % 28.75% 00.07% { Ah5h }
he picks up less than 1%
so if by "the same chance as you" he meant "about half as much equity as you," then i agree with 'ole milesy-boy. in the very large chance that he was preflop dominated (as was the case), then he's very wrong.

Chips: 16,051 | | | Re: wacky cash game hand we call AJ the hand of death. if/when you get callers, there really is no such thing as a good flop, except KTQ or AAJ.
you may as well just check/fold it.

Chips: 80 | | | Re: wacky cash game hand i guess i should have included that neither shooter nor i had any diamonds. jojo is right, though. i know i ran the hand through poker stove, but i forgot the exact numbers.
somebody who is better than me at this, tell me if miles made the correct call preflop. given the pot odds and such. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
