The Donkey's play at all levels

Of course - could be the pot calling the kettle black. Still a funny hand.

w16227

I was running the ladder last night - kind of a risk/reward SnG strategy. You play one of your normal level games - and if you win or finish 2nd, you move up one level. If you go on a rush - you can make a big hit. If not - you can still bail with some profit.

Started on a $20 stars SnG. Took 1st. Move to a $30 took 2nd.

Played a $50.

Usually when I move up in limits - or to a new site I will throw out a tester raise or two in order to see how high I can ratchet up my blind stealing. I do this from MP or EP to see the tolerance level of the players for a bully.

First hand - I hold 79os from BB+2.

I rasie to 80 (3x bb at pstars). You get 1500 to start - so I can play around a bit. One caller - and the BB.

flop - 7 9 j, 2 hearts.

wow - now I have a problem caused by my own aggression. I lay out about a 1/2 pot sized bet (like 120). Caller - and BB raises another 200.

hmmmm -

anyone who knows me will realize that this is a pushing situation for me. I want to get one guy to drop - both would be preferred.

So I push.

BB calls

shows 4-6 of hearts

LOL

river takes it for him and I cannot stop laughing (or beating my head against the wall, not sure which).

Pushing may have been a mistake - but I wanted to knock at least one guy out of there. A smaller reraise would have comitted over 1/2 of my chips and given the other two guys decent odds to call any turn bet.

I just could not believe it - going for the 6 high flush with action like that.
Next 4 times I bust him. Heck - even calling the preflop raise is not a good move with a hand like that and no position.

But I made up for it at the Pacific O8 tables.

1/2 pot bet screams weakness against 2 opponents. i go something like 200.

and he's a big fat donkey, yes.

I kind of wanted it to look that way. If one played back at me - push. If both called, bet strong on the turn if no heart hit. Even a 200 bet would probably get a call from JT or AJ.

I actually love sneaky little flops like that. Every hand that had me beat was compromised in some way. JJ "should" reraise preflop. 77 and 99 would be a lot less likely due to my hand - and the st8 should not even be in the hand (OK - and that flush draw should not be either- but poker happens).

Had a similar one in one of the 1st two "ladder" steps I gave myself. Had 96suited in the BB.

Early weak raise (to 60), three callers. Like 13:1 odds= autocall. Flop nut st8 - and somehow 2 guys end up allin. Neither had any st8 or flush draws going and I triple up.

Re: The Donkey's play at all levels

i feel you, but i'm just too reluctant to play slow with a vulnerable hand.

bottom two with a straight and a flush draw on board? that's vulnerable, baby. i want to get a flush draw in immediately. you did, and wasn't it awesome?????!!!?!?!?111!!one?!
