My poker playing weekend in Vegas.

While playing in a casino tourney recently, I encountered my worst run of cards. My question is, when the cards are not coming your way, do you change your strategy or stick to your normal style of betting? I would say that I am a pretty tight player. Should I start to open up my range of hands played when the cards are not coming my way? The only reason why I lasted that long (2 hours) was that my hands were soooo bad that I only was able to see the flop about 6 times total. I was getting blinded out the whole way.

Here is pretty much the cards I had in the tournament:

2 pocket pairs (2-2, Q-Q)

2 pocket picture cards (K-J, K-10)

Highest card with an Ace (A-7)

Times with a 10-9 (never)

Times with a J-9, Q-9, K-9 (2x?)

Re: Getting dealt crap, change strategy?

I usually just fold crap. It's crapitude doesn't help it win just because it's the best crap I've gotten. At least, that's what I try to tell myself.

Re: My poker playing weekend in Vegas.

After that terrible tourney at the Shoe, I played in a 2 more tourneys that night with the similar results. The next day I played at the Shoe again (5th-$100) and Plaza (no money). It was on my third day that I hit a hot streak. I played at the Nugget (4 way chop for $900 each), Nugget (5th-$285), and the Shoe (3rd-$485).

Summary:

3 Days and nights in Vegas
8 Tournaments played
4 Final tables (5th, 4 way chop, 5th, 3rd) reached
23 Hours of poker played
16 Hours of sleep
1770 Dollars in prize money won
880 Dollars in buy-ins, rebuys, and add-ons
890 Dollars in profit
0 Amount of energy left

I even busted out a young professional poker player out of the last tournament I played putting him in 4th place. This guy just won $250K at a big Vegas tournament recently. His brother who also is a professional got knocked out in 5th. Really fun guys to play poker with. No "I'm a professional" attitude.

Oh yah...also got to take a picture with Marcel Luske. He put his infamous turned upside down glasses on my face before we snapped the picture.

Most of the tourneys on the Thursday and Friday were 40-50 players. On Saturday, the tournies at the Nugget had 50-60 players and the Shoe had about 60 players at 2:00 in the morning.

The tourneys at the Plaza and Shoe was @$100 total including a 1 time re-buy. The Nugget was $140 total including a re-buy and add-on.

Re: My poker playing weekend in Vegas.

its nice that you did well daveyboy....i wish i could say the same....

i ended up at club tao which was off the heezy fo'sheezy.....
ridiculous girls everywhere....
and they even had some that were part of the club, sitting in bathtubs with only flower covering the nipples and a g-string...
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
my fiance wasnt too excited about me staring and droolin either....
lol

overall after the weekend was over, i was down $230 from gambling....and $500 for the weekend...
so i spent more on the weekend (food, drinks, etc...) than gambling...
btw, i didnt win sh!t except 3 silver strikes from the bellagio while waiting to get seated at the table....

and some pictures and memories of the poker legends....

free,
d
