Chips: 493 | | Drugs and poker do not mix I had a rather unfortunate experience at my latest home game. Due to a recent jaw surgery I was on some very potent pain medication (Percocet) at my home game last week. It reduced my attention span to that of a 5 year old and completly eliminated any killer instinct I may have possesed. My tournament lasted over 3 hours but I was eliminated after just 45 minutes. While I did not get any good cards, I did not make a single good decision or win a single pot. I was bullied out of almost every pot I entered and was totally dominated every time I got to a showdown.
Moral of the story: percocet and poker = bad combo (even worse than alcohol and smoke)
I did win yesterday though (no longer on the medication).

He chose one night to toke up before we played poker, and was like a wet puppy dog being chased around with sharp sticks. We STOLE his money that night and he swore he would never smoke and play again about $80 later... I guess poker and passive don't mix well either. |

BTW, I think Mike Matusow will agree with you about drugs and poker being a bad mix. Quote: |

Chips: 493 | | | Re: Drugs and poker do not mix I think I lasted 45 minutes because I was too timid to play any marginal hands. I found not only my mental capacity quite diminished but my manual dexterity was also shot. Shuffling the cards became quite a chore (not easy to do when your hands are shaking like a junkie looking for a fix). The unfortunate part of the evening came when the most plastered drunken fool at the table won the tourny. I don't mind losing to aggressive play, but losing to a a sloppy drunk with no table manners really frosts my bananas.

I am a regular smoker (not just cigs) I hold a weekly home game of about 8 to 10 players and blaze up before and on breaks each game. I've done fairly well for myself in some of these games, with good comp. IMO it keeps me calm, helps me to analize situations and stay focused. Different strokes for different folks. I dont think that there is a difference between smoking a couple of joints and drinking beer, shots, etc. while playing. That's just me though. I would love for someone to think that they can out play me because I smoke. Bottom line - Your feelings are gonna get hurt! Good Luck to you all!

He was blazed, and does not smoke often, well let's just say he smokes socially and not regularly. Other friends of mine that toke regularly don't seem to have the same amount of effect when doing anything like poker that requires your full attention. |
