I wonder if the marks will continue to improve over time. I would hate to see a complete deck of cards wasted for something like that. That's why I bought expensive plastic cards! If they are still only going to last one game night, I might as well go back to cheap paper cards with flowers and castles on them!

Re: "Fingernailed" card question

Those cards had seen a lot of hands before that happened - 4 to 8 hours of play three times a week for a few weeks. I won't play with anything but plastic cards any more.

Though the indent did get less noticeable I believe they are still there.

Re: "Fingernailed" card question

I attended an event at a run down bar this past week.

Poorly run, I had them replace a nine of spades that the corner had split. No issue.

Neck time I shuffled I asked the that an Ace be replaced, corner significantly bent.

A friendly game turned not so friendly.

I think if you are the event organizer, everyone will respect you holding a straight game. (except the possible person wanting an advantage)

In my circumstance, don't piss off the organizer..

Re: "Fingernailed" card question

I've seen this crud a number of times. To deal with it, most houses I play at replace a deck upon request without question. It seems to be the fairest way to deal with this stuff.

Sometimes its very suspicious, other times its probably just someone being nervous, or maybe its from the card bouncing off of a card marker (who knows) but heck if I or anyone spots a tweaked card - get the cards out of there.

You can ask for a card count or a deck switch anytime. Obviously there are limits You couldnt ask the cards to be counted every hand or a new deck every orbit, but it has yet to be abused....

I've never done this, and have no idea if it works, but maybe you could "iron out" the marked card. put it between some fabric and try running an iron over it until the mark goes away.....

I could imagine this would ruin the card, but it may be worth trying if the damage is too great.

If someone tries this let me know i would love to know the outcome. If i run into one I will suggest it to the owner.

Re: "Fingernailed" card question

This is why I use a fresh deck of casino castoffs (free) for every game involving cash. I don't feel bad when I have to discard the deck after a night of playing because I can get a new one from the local casino for free.
