On a whim, I picked up a set of these cards today for $18 from a local store (I don't really like the WPT logo back on the cards). They have the WPT logo on the back on one black deck and one white deck. The Ace of Spades had the Bee 92 logo just like a set of Bee paper cards, and they're only in Bridge size. They are definitely
not KEMs. These cards are made in Spain not in the US as other USPC cards are, and clearly marked as such on the Ace. The colors on these cards are not as bright as one would find on a set of original KEM cards; the cards themselves are about the same thickness as casino KEMs and thicker than the consumer market KEMs. Comparing them to a set of Copags, the print is a bit better defined and brighter than what one would find on the Copags (I had 1546 and Exports). The texture on the cards on initial handling seemed closer to that of Copags. Though overall, I would find the cards quite playable (if you don't mind the WPT logo on the back). The only disappointment is the very poor quality plastic box that they came in, which I would expect to break the first time the box is dropped. The box is no where near the quality that one gets with a set of Copags or KEMs, and I'd almost be inclined to prefer one of the cardboard boxes that the KEM casino cards come in. Insofar as the actual manufacturer, my guess is that they are probably made by Heraclio Fournier and Sons of Vitoria, Spain, since they are said to have been recently acquired by USPC and they do manufacture plastic cards in Spain.

I was thinking that maybe one of these companies may have made them. Anyway any comments would be appreciated. |
