Yeah, I guess I forgot that the lowest web price seemed to be the one at the WPT site. I wouldn't have paid $25 for a set either. The store that had these only had 2 sets, and I bought one of them. I'll check with them to see if they can order more and maintain their price (which I think is $18.99 in their store). If so, I'll post the info here for those who are interested. They just give me funny little discounts here and there and they just punched up $18 even for me, I didn't ask them to discount them. Additionally, I didn't know that ASM was selling Dal Negros for $16, which brings an entirely new light on the subject. (and I'm trying to tell myself that I don't need to buy a set of them.

). I don't know if the USPC KEMs are cellulose acetate, though there are some enroute to me so maybe I'll know when I get them.
The WPT cards really aren't bad quality card per se, I thik it would be nice to see it as a Bee line of plastic cards at some point in the future featuring the more traditional Diamond back.
Insofar as old KEMs are concerned I think Rochester Chess Center seems to have some outstanding prices though some of the sets are a little different (e.g. two matching decks of the same color in a set). Don't know if it was the remnants of the KEM inventory or if they might be seconds. Seems that they've liquidated all of their Poker sized inventory of KEMs.

I already have like 6 sets of old Kems and was interested in getting the plastic WPTs if they were an example of the new USPC Kem cellulose acetate product line. I don't particularly like the Arrow or Paisley design and so have not been interested in getting those. The WPT design isn't all that wonderful either, but at least it has some collector value. |
