New Dal Negro Cards - Sneak Peak
I was fortunate enough to receive a prototype of some new Dal Negro designs coming to the market through Trident Cards. I'll try and fill you all in without sounding too much like an advertisement, because this is not, this is a sneak peak review of these cards.
Some of you may be aware of my love for the Dal Negro Torcello cards, previously amongst my favorite cards for their 4-pip design and great texture and feel. Torcello's have become very difficult to find in any retail store (Caragail's currently has the Blanco version of the Torcello's, blank white backs).
While the Torcello cards were becoming scarce, Trident Cards went ahead and, through working with Dal Negro, came out with a setup called the Freedom X. It had a new, bright back design, and completely redesigned faces with new "stylized" suits and Trident's take on the poker "peek" index. Honestly, the stylized suits were difficult to read and distinguish (spades and clubs) from afar and the peeks were on the wrong corner for most poker players. Thus these cards were not as popular as expected.
However, and this is a big however, these cards were made with a different composition than before that gave them incredible texture, weight, and thickness.
The prototypes I have marry the material and the back design of the Freedom X to the faces of the Torcello 4-pip. These cards are slightly thinner than most Modiano and Zero cards, slightly thinner than my Torcello's, but not as thin as Copag. They are, however, much more flexible than Modiano and Desjgn and Zero. And their texture is very appealing, not smooth like Desjgn, more like a Modiano Golden Trophy.
Simply, these are my most favorite cards ever.
When these come out, they will be available in: "probably poker jumbo, poker 4SI, and bridge 2SI". Details are still being figure out I guess. I also don't know at this point exactly when these will be available to purchase, I'll have to update this post after that becomes known.
I'll be putting these into play tonight. It'll be interesting to see what my players' reactions will be.
