First KEM card set.....disappointed

my first delve into plastic cards was Copaq. I liked 'em and felt like I got a good value for my money. I wanted another set of plastic cards, so I ventured out and tried Modianos, to see what "thicker" cards felt like. I like them as well.

well, i needed a new set to cards and chips, so I did my research at chiptalk.net and took a plunge on Faux Clay chips from discountcasinogear.com. with the money "saved" on chips, i decided to "splurge" on KEM cards. i went with the black/gold arrow wide with regular index.

i just received the chips and cards today. i love the chips. not really in love w/ the KEM cards. right off the bat, i noticed that some cards weren't aligned properly. on the 5c card, both 5's are unequal distances from the edge. some random others are the same. WTF? i haven't opened the other color pack and i emailed discountcasiogear.com to see if i can replace them.

i just assumed KEM was still the defacto card to get. guess quality has dropped.

******************EDIT*********

ok, here are some pics. honestly, the camera doesn't capture the unevenness as well. LMK what you guys think.

Re: First KEM card set.....disappointed

btw, if anyone's interested, i can post a pic of a few offending cards.

normally, i wouldn't be too anal about it, but since i convinced myself to treat myself on expensive cards (since i saved on chips) i'm disappointed.

It's my understanding that KEM quality has dropped since USPC bought'em out. I have several decks of pre-USPC and they are dandy. However, my current favorites are my Dal Negro Nets. Good luck on the exchange.

KEM quality went out the door just before USPC bought them out and it has gotten worse with USPC. I have a deck of old Arrows and I don't find much difference between that and the Copags I am using now.

I agree- everything USPC touched lately has turned to crap--
make stuff cheaper charge more money--
I have yet to understand this business philosophy

If you go to holdempokerchips.com and look for cards -- I've found the Dal Negro "Carpets" to be the best I've ever played with. I'm trying to get on HPC's site to get you a direct link, but something's up with my computer or their site -- very slow.

Thumbs up Re: First KEM card set.....disappointed

I have heard about so many bad experiences with the new Kems that I decided to concentrate on getting the old ones while I still can. I have bought several setups and have been extremely pleased with all of them. The only downside being that I wont be able to get replacement cards if I need them. I hope at some point that the U.S. Playng Crda Co. will realize what kind of damage they are doing to the Kem name and step up quality control and produce cards to match the old standard.

Kems are the most overrated cards out there. Even the pre-USPC Kems are prone to warping. Stick with Modiano, Dal Negro, Desijn, NTP, Fournier, Gemaco, and Copag. Anything but Kem.

I agree. While flawless USPC Kems aren't too bad it's not worth the gambling for quality. Buy something else to make sure the word gets to USPC.

I'm interested. Pictures are worth 1000s of words, right?
