even though others on the site have commented on them, I figured I would give my take on my Modiano Bike Trophy's that came in the mail yesterday.
LOOKS/ DESIGN: I really like the design on the back with the small bikes on the edges and the big wheels in the center. It is one of those designs where from a distance all you see are the shapes and patterns, and it isn't until you look closely that you see all of detail. Dark black and bright red colors stand out, and very nice A of spades.
The 4-pips also are a big plus to me. First they are different and new to me (have not played with 4 pips in the past) and I really like a change of pace. Secondly they really bring a balance to the card, but without making it busy. Flipping up the corners of your AKs or QQ just has a little more pizazz with the pips on each corner. They are poker size, and I typically prefer bridge but the 4 pips make the wider cards work.
FEEL: There are two categories here and I'll address them separately. First in terms of card thickness, these cards are definitely thicker than the Copags (which I liked) that I have played with in the past. They still are very flexible and easy to shuffle, but not quite as flimsy/ bendable as the Copags were when new. This may change over time, but right now I would say they have more substantial feel in hand than Copag, and I like that.
Second is the texture. The cards have a light texture to them which makes them slightly easier to hold in your hand. For the most part it doesn't have any effect on the shuffling or dealing, but I think it does make the cards a little less slick. Despite this the top card will still slide off of the deck on occasion if it is set on the table. Copags also seem to have this problem and I have heard that Gemaco do as well. I like the texture.
DURABILITY: Obviously I won't be able to make any serious judgment until about Christmas time after these have seen a lot of action. My buddies copag's that we played with for about 4 months for about 3-4 nights per week were showing a little wear by the end. For the most part they held up very well though, and only a few faces seemed a little faded. The Modianos seem as though they will hold up well, but as I said only time will tell.
NEGATIVES: I am sure it is clear that I really like these cards, but there is one drawback. They come in relatively flimsy cardboard boxes which are not going to offer the same protection of a nice plastic box. I am in the market right now for one, but CaraGails (where I ordered them) did not have any boxes at the time. If you are going to travel with these cards or think they will be roughed up its probably worth investing a couple bucks in a plastic box.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION: for 15 bucks including shipping (
www.caragails.com through the end of August) this setup of Bike Trophy's is a great deal. They are great cards with a good look and great feel. All of my friends will be coming back in town for the start of school in a week so I am excited to show off the new cards (and chips for which I am almost done labeling

). If you have 15 bucks to blow and you like plastic cards you should definitely give them a try...I don't think you will be dissappointed.
thanks for all that helped on the thread
