TASK FORCE Tool Case/Chip Case Review

Material: Aluminum
Member Review by: KYBill
In my search for a portable chip case that could organize my chips and still hold 4 sets of playing cards I stumbled onto this tool case/ poker case setup. We usually play games with up to three full tables, so I needed a sturdy chip case that would be able to store enough chips for 24 people but still not break my back. I was browsing the different poker forums when this setup caught my eye. The poster had taken a tool case from Home Depot and used it as his chip case. They used the 100 count clear poker trays and stacked them inside the tool case. Dividers in the tool case separated the chips from cards and there was still storage space for pens, card protectors, and other poker related gear.

Well, I was off but with no Home Depot close I ventured to Lowe’s to find my perfect chip case. I got lucky at Lowe’s and found a “Task Force” aluminum tool case.

I purchased the case and headed straight home. I opened the box and even though it was not the same brand as the ones on the message board they looked identical. The package included a tool pallet (still in my garage), a key, strap, a foam inset filler (fits into the lid of the case), and 5 divider pieces.

I sorted my chips into stacks that were pre-sorted for our usual buy-in amount and filled up my clear plastic chip trays. The Chip trays were purchased from www.5stardeal.com (10-5030SET). They cost $2.24 each and come with a cover.

I only needed six trays for my 24 person tournament and found out that the tool case holds 8 trays (800 total chips). I rounded up some extra chips and filled up another tray with “color up” chips. After fitting the dividers, I noticed that there was a half-inch gap between the dividers and the chip boxes so I used a deck of casino cards (I knew there was a use for these!) as a filler to keep the chip trays from moving while carrying the case. The inside of the case measures 17 inches by 12 inches and is 4 inches deep with the foam inset in the lid. The last step was to put my 4 sets of Kem cards in and then I was done.
Price
$19.00-25.00
Looks
I like the look. Imagine a metal poker chip case on steroids. The outside is textured aluminum with a smooth aluminum frame and black corners. I think the black corners and handle really look good with the silver aluminum. The inside is made from a grey spongy material with eggcrate filler in the lid. The dividers match the color of the inside of the case and have a spongy feel. The dividers are precut and don’t allow for much customization. Luckily the standard setup of the dividers works very well for dividing the chip trays and the poker accessories.
Security
The case comes with a lock so you can prevent someone from sneaking chips into play. The locks are built into the latch and come with a generic key.
Durability
I have used the case for about 10 tournaments outside of my house and it seems to be holding up very well. Remember this has been made to be a tool case so it is built to take some abuse. I wouldn’t recommend dropping it off a cliff, but throwing it into your trunk or backseat shouldn’t do much to it. I have noticed a couple small dents in the outside of the case, but then again I have dropped it a couple times. It resides in my trunk or closet when it’s not in use and I have two kids who love to hide in the closet (and knock it over). The handle seems sturdy and is the best way to carry the case. I would not recommend the strap with this much weight. The included strap does not have any padding and would cut into your shoulder with the weight of 800 chips. The strap attaches to triangle hooks on each side of the case and a padded strap could be used if you would rather carry the case with a strap. When I know I have a long walk from my car to the tables I'll throw the case onto a foldout cart and roll it in.
Reviewers Comments
If you’re looking for a cheap way to get your chips around then this is a very good solution for you. The case doesn’t look too bad and will hold 800 chips and several sets of cards. My number one goal is not to impress people with a solid wood case but to get my chips to and from our poker events easily and this case does the job. For my home games I have a solid wood case but for the road this is a better option.
