oo ooo that smell

I just got a setup of Del Nagro Freedoms and I really like them. A lot. I like them better than my Copags.

BUT, they sure do smell! And I mean really funky. If they are sitting in their plastic box with the lid off just laying there on the table I can even smell them.

Any way to get rid of this? If I leave them sitting out with all the cards exposed for a few days will the stench go away? Do I have bad cards? Is my sense of smell over-active?

I must Haiku!

Dal Negro Freedoms
Nice feel last a long, long time
But ooo ooo that smell!

Well, I really really like the cards. I'm sure I can do something about the smell. I might just be nit-picking the cards, you know?

Standard Disclaimer: YMMV.

I'm going to try putting them in the dishwasher. Seriously. I am. Going to try it tonight in fact. Not the whole deck, just the jokers and the "ad" card. Then I am going to do a write-up of it. Going to try it with my Copags too.

ugh... it's Friday afternoon... work is SO boring... I am running off at the mouth...

Ya, that's what I was saving up my chips to get... I guess now it's back to Copags? Surely I can't wait for KEMs...

Yeah, my Dal Negros stink too. Or stunk, I should say. When I first got them and opened them up... WHEW!!! But the last time I checked (visualize me approaching my stack of cards, opening one of my Dal Degro boxes, sniffing the cards, then placing them back into the box) they seemed fine. I think it's just a matter of leaving them out occasionally so they can "air out".

Cool, thanks Kalimba. I was sure that was the case. I'm going to leave them spread out on my table overnight and see what happens in the morning.

I'm still going to try the dishwasher too.

So, there it is... DON'T HESITATE! BUY YOUR DAL NEGROS!

If you want to accelerate the process you might try this-

Take a salad bowl, small saucepan or equivalent vessel, and fill it with tepid water. Add and mix-in 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda. Immerse the cards and slosh them around for about 15 minutes. Rinse and dry. Air for a few hours before you put them back in the box.

Worked for me.

btw- Modiano's have a similar odoriferous nature, and can be treated the same way.

I like the smell of new cards. . . just like the smell of a new car. I even like that stinky-old Kem smell. I think a set of Kems (new or old) smells stronger than the Italian cards, BTW.

I noticed that on the mondianos I got recently. I just spread them out on a table to let them 'breathe' for a couple of days and it was 90% diminished.
