Most people I know that own these types of machines are counting on the fact that they will do the service with parts purcahsed online.
Old Arcade Machines, Pinballs, Jukeboxes, MAME machines, Slots, all fall into the category of you buy it, fix it up, and maintain it yourself pretty much, unless you're very well off and have the funding to practically keep someone on staff.
Not only do these machines (especially older collectable ones) command a high price for parts, but anyone who's capable of fixing them will assume that if you're calling them, you're in over your head, and you're going to pay top-dollar to make repairs.
I'd read some manuals, hunt down the parts, tinker a bit, and make it a hobby you can enjoy. The Golden Tee software upgrades aren't cheap from my understanding. If you're trying to get the latest "current in the bar version" plan on paying quite a bit to upgrade an old GT carcass.
I built a MAME control panel, that's capable of playing Golden Tee along with just about every video game you've ever heard of through a PC. I'm still trying to find the time to get the track ball and spinner done.
Check out the pics of what's involved here...
