Re: De Meaner -Mosaic

(Deep breath... must not get jealous of Mr.Meaner's mosaic, or his poker room...)

(Deep breath... must not get jealous of CaptLego's mosiac-making abilities, and the fact that I don't have one yet - or have my own custom chips for him to make one with...)

(Serenity now... SERENITY NOW!)

Nice, Mr.Meaner - any chance of you moving your room to the Great White North so we Canucks have a chance to use it?

Cool... can we see a close up or maybe CaptLego could post a smaller version so we could see the the small chips?

Nice addition.

I'll try to post some more pictures.
That red mosaic used very small cells (chips), so the texture does look like NJ.
I made mosaics of his other chips using a variety of cell sizes. The idea is that a different cell size might work better for some walls than others (depends on viewing distance), and some variety might be nice.

I had a friend print out the mosaics --- from 2' to 3' diameter so I could see how they turned out. I'll take some pictures of those printouts later.

I can probably make the mosaics available to others for download, but I'd want Mr Meaner to approve that before I do. The files for these mosaics run from 20MB to 150MB....

I just wanted to see a close up of the "cells" (i.e. chips)... pretty cool.

Here are some pics of a test print. These were printed out on an old HP Designjet printer, using plain paper. I think they'd look better on glossy/photo paper and a higher resolution printer...

The first set here was printed out at about 3 foot square:

First... awesome, thanks.

But isn't having the mosaic on a background pic of the chip and adjusting chip colors accordingly cheating... seems it defeats the purpose somewhat?

Still cool.

Re: De Meaner -Mosaic

Capt,

I would not have a problem with making the Mosaic's available for other use. I still need to have some others printed up. The only problem was two fold, the cost and I really did not get the warm and fuzzies when I asked a customer of ours to print a bunch of these out for me. He was hesitant to print out three of them but I did manage to get him to do the one red one which I though turned out great.

I wanted to also go to a hobby store to see how much it would cost to put a nice frame on them. I just have been dragging my feet a little cause a have a lot of stuff going on at work.

Fins,
I really did not have anything else I could think of for the mosaics other than the chips. I almost had Capt do our company logo but that has nothing to do with poker and the image in only a two-tone color.

Yeah, it's "cheating" a bit. In the first mosaics I did for him, I didn't cheat the colors. Consequently, the overall mosaic came out a bit dull, kinda hazy. Letting it cheat the colors a bit really brightens up the overall image, albeit at the expense of the fidelity of the individual chips. Similarly, you can chose any image your want for the background. I used the target image, but you could use a plain background. Again, I think the image background just makes the overall mosaic look better.

The program gives you complete control over these things, so you can make any tradeoffs you want.

Way cool, didn't mean to imply otherwise. I had thought about printing out my chips in a large pic and making a round glass top table to serve as a beverage cart/side table w/ wheels but this falls into my someday category but with your setup might work.

Edit... just posted this & see you updated your poker room thread with Drink Carts!
