We had a Halloween tournament last year, and one of the regulars (female) wore sunglasses, a hat, and a stupid poker tee-shirt. She constantly told us she had won 9 bracelets, and if it weren't for luck, she would never lose. Very funny, especially since she was about the 3rd person out!
You obviously didn't get her sarcasm...
Who has won 9 bracelets and said the exact statement you said she said? Helmuth in the 2004 WSOP.
We all wear shades  because it makes you look cooler when sitting at the table. Actually, we wear them because it looks way too funny and is kind of an inside joke. At our first large game one guy showed up with his shades and we all bugged the hell out of him (before taking his chips). The very next week he showed up without the shades. As the tourny got underway the rest of us all put on our shades to be as cool as we could be and get a rise out of him. It worked. He went on tilt and we took all his chips (again). Now we just wear them for the sheer comedic value.

Actually I don't do any of that, (apart from give my money away) and no-one, at any of the tournies that I have held has ever been daft enough to wear sunglasses either.
WOW then playing in the UK must be sweet then. California casinos are full of shade wearing douches. Tourneys and cash games, it dosent matter...they are there, rocking the shades.
I do agree with R Deckards sentiment that wearing them might be a little cold and serious, but a couple of my Tuesday night regulars wear them...as its a serious game. We are all really good friends mind you, but we take the winning seriously. We keep a mental leader board of sorts and the competition is always stiff.

No offense intended, but it is you who missed the sarcasm: the point was that I assumed everyone on this board would not need to be told that she was obviously Hellmuth. (Do I now need to also spell out that her weak-tight play added to the effect: I love when people become their costumes...)
