I have something similar to your second structure on my computer but for the life of me I cannot get the spiral staircase effect. I use plastic chips, so maybe that's the problem. I can never get the chips to lean enough before they just topple over. That or I'm not using the right technique.

Regardless, nice structures, I like 'em.

The spiral was very easy and is very forgiving.

As long as the chips touch each other they shouldn't topple over. I just move the next layer of chips over far enough where I can't see the previous one's label and it works fine.

That was a spiral of 4 stacks. I bet the difficulty would increase if I tried 6 stacks.

Spirals are really easy, once you get the hang of it.

The trick is to build them one layer at a time, as opposed to starting with stacks of chips and trying to turn them into a spiral.

Try this:
Lay one chip flat on the table. Take six more chips and place them around the first (center) chips. So you have a hexagonal arrangement of chips, witn an additional one in the center. That's layer 1.

Now put another chip directly on top of the center chip. Take six more chips and again place them around the center chip. Except for this layer, place the chips so they are slightly offset from the layer below. For example, line the outside edge of the chip with the insert of the chip below it. So layer 2 will be slightly rotated from layer 1. Note that the chips on layer 2 (other than the one in the center) will lap over two of the chips in the lower layer.

Just keep doing this until you run out of chips.

These structures are extremely stable, quite easy to do, and they look great.

After you're done with your spiral and it's time to put the chips away, try "unscrewing" the spiral into straight vertical stacks.

I will so do the color stacks like that as well.

Well I did the twist. Pretty nice & simple to do. Mine doesn't look near as good as the one you posted CaptLego, I think it's because I didn't use the same chip pattern as you. Nevertheless, awesome structure and great instructions.

Note that I only have been doing this for 2-4 days...
Hope that it's ok that I intrude in your thread.

A couple days ago, at the casino, I started to build things with my chips when I was on a run of cold cards. The people at my end of the table were amused, and started making requests for the next thing they wanted to see. We were also joking that I had to stop building when I wanted to play a good hand.

(I ended up using this to my advantage... on one hand, after I flopped the nut flush, I bet and went back to a "dome" I was working on. One of the other players looked at me and said "Well, he's still building with his chips, so I don't think he has it." and raised all-in. I smiled, called, and watched his face drop when I flipped my cards.)

That is awesome. But I would have thought that the dealer would have said something to you as it could be taken as a distraction to other players.

I finished some new structures and did 2 How To's. Just waiting for them to be reviewed and posted.

It was one of those nights where everyone was having a good time at the table:

1. One guy went on "tilt" and decided he was going to play one hand completely blind... he raised every card, and when he flipped his cards after the river betting, we found he hit a runner-runner straight to win the hand.

2. Quad kings had been dealt twice at the table, so we made a "table rule" that if they were dealt again, whoever received that hand had to wear their underwear on the outside of their clothes for an hour (quad 7s came up two hands later)...

The only thing the dealers said to me was to make sure my chips stayed in front of the rail - I was in seat 1, and they didn't want me encroaching on the toke box. Other than that, they had fun with it...

However, the vibe just seemed to be at that table. When our table broke, and a couple of us were moved to another table filled with grumpy, super-serious WSOP wannabes, it just wasn't the same.
