While I was in Indiana recently I was even ask by someone at a river boat casino if I was a pro, as I intemidated some of them by some of the things I was doing at the table. I really got a kick out of that... |

Chips: 29 | | | Re: What % of Poker Players Do Tricks With Their Chips? I love learning and doing chip tricks. It's very satisfying to overcome the difficulty of learning the precise movement necessary to do the tricks. I also like learning sleight of hand card tricks for the same reason.
I always get a kick out of instructional videos where the instructor makes it sound like it's really easy to learn a trick: "just do this... then this... and then this... presto!" I've found that even the easy tricks are hard to do at the beginning, and you'll want to give up - but once you get the hang of a chip trick, it's very very easy to do. |

I originally started to learn some tricks as a way to keep my mind off of smoking. My skillz progressed and I can now do several tricks unconciously. It is kinda sad that I am one of only two people at our games that can even shuffle a stack of chips.

Chips: 215 | | | Re: What % of Poker Players Do Tricks With Their Chips? Out of habit, I'm definately in the chip tricking category. Shuffle, thumb flip, chip twirl, finger flip, chip bounce, Shuffle into a tall stack, butterfly, chip-on-a-string, chip stack roll, knuckle roll, and a few others.
It definately is a consideration to take into account when doing these tricks at a Brick and Mortar. I wish I could control my habit of chip tricking as it does give out a lot of information that I might not want to advertise right off the bat. Depending on the difficulty of the tricks, it tells other players who are paying attention that at the very least, you have seen a lot of hours at the tables. It is usually safe to assume the player has a lot of experience, but not necessarily means they are solid or whatever. Considering the games you might play in though, it may not have a huge significance. At the lowest limits such as 1/2nl or 3/6 limit, the players are likely to make mistakes regardless of if they think you are "good." At bigger games, it is not uncommon to see several players doing tricks of one kind or another so you don't really stand out. Something to be aware of when playing live though. |

What is "chip-on-a-string"? Quote: |

| I find it causes me less problem at "work" in the casino than it does at my job. I'm sure the new guys who just started working with us recently, are glad I'm on vacation for a week, to get a break from the constant CLACK CLACK CLACK from my office. |
