And yes, I have tried composing a large AB from the chips, but
not much success so far. The problem is that to get a good range
of fleshtones, you'd need an enormous number of cells. That
means you'd need a billboard-sized output before it started to
look good.

A Blend Of Beauties
Here's a compromise solution to making a mosaic of beauties. In this case, the final picture is a blend of the original and the chips. The chips get "colorized" somewhat to match the original image.
